conversion to auto
At the moment i have my Rodeo in a million bits fitting GQ diffs and coils under it with 3" springs.... 4.88:1 gears going into them... 35" Wranglers..... cardinal joints both diffs..... lots of expensive shit happening...
after being a solely manual driver for ages, i have begun to take note of the guys saying that auto is the way to go...... I am seriously considering converting it to auto... BUT........ the 2.8 didn't come with an auto option..... and i am unsure of whether the 3.1 Jackaroo auto would fit.... any ideas?

I am/was a manual transmission die-hard..... but reading the reports on other die-hards who have changed to auto for off-road, especially competitions..... i think i am going to go that way. The Deo will be a wild piece of gear when it's finished, and i'm going to buy a little shitter to drive to work so the fourby won't be a daily driver...... I got a phone call from a 4WD wrecker in Brisvegas today (Southside 4x4 Wreckers in Archerfield), and they can source an auto out of an MU to fit on a 4JB1T engine.... complete with torque converter, flex plate, complete console and gear selector for about $1,450 exchange...... sounds pretty good to me

I use them for all my Isuzu stuff as they have a great selection of Jackaroos and Rodeos. I have seen the odd MU as well. They are also cheaper than the Brisbane based wreckers. I imagine land is heaps cheaper in Minden
I have used Southside 4x4 wreckers too though. Seemed pretty good but haven't used them since they moved mainly because I drive right past the door of All 4x4 Parts a few times a week.

I am just about to swap to an auto but only cause the engine I am putting in came with an auto my current gearbox is a POS T5 not the world class T5 like we get in everything else but a standard light duty one
I personally wouldnt bother if I had to adapt one into it but if it mates up to the engine with factory parts go for it
what about going a bigger engine that came with an auto and buy the whole combo that you know WILL work together ?? Not as if stock is important to you
in for a penny in for a pound as they say

An auto can be far superior offroad than a manual. Comes down to driving style, terrain and driveline comboRockyF70 wrote:bogged wrote:theres a reason for that....RoeDao wrote:You won't find another solid axle, coil sprung automatic turbo diesel rodeo anywhere![]()
Go for it RoeDaoStand out frm the crowd, but seriously forget the auto unless u gonna drive it round town

Auto's rock
The Auto is much more forgiving on the drive train.
I did the auto swap and never looked back.

I' m putting a turbo 400 auto in my gu. They are easy and cheap to find and you can do just about anything you want to them. They are rock solid and you can get heaps of after market parts.

you can come and drive my lux. you'll blow your load. If that auto doesn't do it for you, i will.
RoeDao, i was always a manual man till i got an auto. it's not as much fun around town but off road they come into a league of there own.
Thats a good offer RockyF70, take it and lie about the experence and you will get both.STUMPY wrote:have you ever driven an auto 4by off road???RockyF70 wrote:
