increased hilux diff track
I want to increase my rear diff track by 3â€
In QLD 50mm on a solid axle, this refers to overall track width so if I run a low offset rim onroad I am within the 50mm and run my crusier rims offroad.but it will be illegal. Cannot increase your track by that much.
Widening or shortening the diff housing if done properly is safe with no loss in strength.I would never do it that way,
Gold Coast.were abouts you
I'm not planning to do it for a few weeks so if I can find a IFS rear diff at the right price I will go that way, if not I will extend the 84 housing I have.
Cheers RB
That what Toyota did too.Rascal wrote:In QLD 50mm on a solid axle, this refers to overall track width so if I run a low offset rim onroad I am within the 50mm and run my crusier rims offroad.but it will be illegal. Cannot increase your track by that much.
I think ur early hilux rear diff has smaller drums than the later diffs. So if you extend your diff housing to fit the IFS rear axles you will need to either machine out centre hole in your drums or buy complete drum/ shoes/ backing plate setup off later model. Or fit discs.
You will also need longer handbrake cable.
I paid $230 bucks all up for my IFS rear housing, got the housing from Gold Coast 4x4 and the axles/brakes from ABC oxley

Just a quick update, finally got the time to extended the diff. Worked a treat. The IFS axles fit the older flange and orig outer seals were used. All up cost $110 to wide track the rear. Just need to do the front now.
