body lift for a gu

I am running 36 simexs with s 4" lift. I am currently rubbing on the rear guards and rear arb bar. Should I go to coil spacers or a body lift to stop the rubbing?

with a GU, the airbags dont work properly when a body lift is fitted (voids insurance) i have heard that you can disconnect the airbags so they are not functioning but im not sure if this fixes the insurance problem. I know that coil spacers are illigal in QLD so that sorta puts you back in the same "void insurance" problem anyway, can ya cut the rear quarters???? Is this legal???

just a question.....are you rubbing on the front at all?

dont really want to cut. Im confused by the airbags you mentioned. what are they?

when u crash they pop out so you dont get a headache

yeh as terry said, the crash airbag sensors will be at the wrong height or something like that. Im not sure on the technicality of there malfunction, i just know they wont work. You do have an airbag model dont you? i assumed all wagons had airbags, although i dont have them in my DX ute.

just to add to this. Dont try and disconnect ya airbags yaself.......if ya do it wrong youll have a torn open dash, there is a procedure to it. I dont know what it is though.......

I doubt if you'd be that worried about insurance if you've got a 4 inch lift

. I rang every Engineer around & they all gave me the same response "We don't touch 4x4's lifted over 2 inchs, the liability factor is too great & it aint worth my trouble"

. Bodylift was definitely a nono. Too many bulls**t laws/rules & regs in this world of ours

. If I didn't own a $40k car, I'd lift it higher. I guess 3' will do

. Or is that a 2inch lift

what offset wheels are you using??

the 36's should clear the guards & a nip & tuck on the bar should fix the bar problem.
i have 35's on a GU with a big 2 inch lift without much rubbing

I have a gu with 36" x 8 simexes and i use 2 rub in the back of the front guard at both sides on full lock i just cut the plastic neatly and just hammed the metal a bit and u wouldnt even notice it and it doesnt rub any more even on the travel
i wanted 2 do a 2" body lift 2 but i was told it could set off the air bags at any time and if u have ever seen them go off u would no u wouldnt want that lol

Sorry, I had a blonde moment with the airbags, was confused with the polyair suspension. Hey Microgu? Does your rear rub at all with your 36's? Mine is rubbing quite heavily.

GU rear axle has excellent travel, so with big tyres you won't be able to stop the tyre from rubbing the rear guard. A cheap way to minimise the rear guard from going to bare metal is to fit bigger bump stops, but this will reduce your wheel travel.

For the front, 36" tyres will rub on the front guard at full lock. You can cut the plastic guard/flare or mudflaps to give bigger clearance or put spacers on the control arms to move the diff forward.
