gday,
i have a GQ diesel, and will be looking at fitting a couple of guages in the future, what i want are guages that are all similar in looks and brand,
so what i need to know,
1 - oil pressure guage, what pressure range will i need, and what is the optimum pressure
2 - EGT, what is max temp that will be needed, how does the senso on these mount?
3 - is boost, ill be right with this one,
all help appreciated,

you can get them all in VDO or Pricol, in 2" with black face and white lettering, and prob in black on white, backlit as well.ozy1 wrote:gday,

oil pressure specification for TD42 is 78kPa (11.5psi) at idle, 294 - 392kPa (43 -57psi) at 3000rpm, and most oil pressure gauges read about zero to 100 psi - so at operating rpm the needle should be in the middle 1/3 of the gauge.
EGT gauge mounts into the exhaust manifold, either in the collector before the turbo, or in the dump pipe immediately after the turbo. pre-turbo temps for a TD42 with aftermarket turbo should be around 700C max, post turbo around 550C max, maybe a little higher on long burns. the sensor is mounted by drilling and tapping the manifold and screwing the sensor in - if you're adding it post turbo, then no disassembly is needed, if pre-turbo, you need to remove the turbo and blow out all the swarf first.
boost gauges come usually in 0-30psi, 0-15 psi, or with a vacuum and positive prssure reading. a vac gauge is useless on a diesel with no throttle butterfly, but these gauges are easier to find and will work fine so there's no reason not to use one except that it will never read any vacuum.

I`m running mechanical speco gauges and find them good so far.
I have
water temp (still have standard dash gauge)
oil temp
oil pressour ( still have the idiot light)
Nothing wrong with the mechanical oil pressour if you run the tube correctly. I have run it in a conduit with the oil temp line. The oil doesn`t go all the way up the tube to the gauge it only goes up it so far untill it has pressourised the air that is in the tube near the gauge. If you are worried about the plastic tube breaking or spliting you can get a copper tube instead.

If your using VDO senders, its very difficult to get a sender with the same size thread as the original NIssan type. I had this problem when installing an oil temperature gauge. There are plenty of spare tappings on the same oil gallery that the fact senders are connected to. Cant remember the thread size though..

VDO make a Boost guage that only measures boost no Vac. Got quoted $50 from Repco for this model. Was backlit, with white lettering on black BG.
Or you could get a normal boost guage but with fancy colours off Ebay for a similar price.
They also do an EGT kit for a bit over $200. This includes a similar looking guage to the boost one. Measures in degrees C, which is better than most of the others. Kit also comes with the pyro-meter and other bits. Just dont shorten the wire from senssor to guage. As it stuffs up the calibration.
Can find part numbers if you wish.
