Hilux's

Post by joel HJ60 »

I did have a search, but my q's wern't really covered.

Guys what can you tell me about 2.8L Hiluxs? Are they reliable? What kind of fuel economy do they get?? km/L L/100km? Are they that sluggish with 31's? I'm looking at getting a second car (early next year) and wanted to know a bit about these. I understand the 2.8's are a bit of a slug, but how are they compared to say my 60 with a 2H? Are they easily serviced (engine oil, filters etc...)? I've had a look on Google and found ln106 Hilux's Solid front, 2.8L, dual cabs for around $10 000. I understand there is a 3L TD engine what year did they come in? Does that sound right? ANY help will be greatfully appreciated

my 97 LN106 gets around 9.8ltrs per 100 kms, reliability seems ok but i have only had it for 3 mths. it is a bit of a slug on the hills with the 31" tyres but ill be getting a turbo soon so that should fix it.

Cheers,
Col.

That's definataly the type of fuel economy I'm after! I think I can handle it being a slug, heck the 60 kinda is! What's the turbo setup cost?

$2500 plus fitting. 2.8 luxes are a great bus, excellent value all round. Loads of 2nd hand parts and aftermarket stuff available. Just service it properly

Hilux's - can't go past them

Post by Willy Hilux »

I,ve had mine for about 5 years and been running a dts turbo for about 3 1/2 years running 15psi boost. Had no problems until I hit 200,000km's towing my other hilux up a hill and 3rd gear let go. But I wouldn't go past them the way the petrol prises are at the moment. :) Nissin drivers must have deep pockets. :finger:

What are the lux's like with rego. I know here in NSW once the truck reaches I think it's 2 ton the rego goes up bigtime. Is that so? would that be so with the lux?

Hi there I'v had mine now for a few years it now has 280k on the clock 1989 SR5 2.8D Get on average 10L per 100k around town, freeway, even 4 wheel driving, pretty much tha same all the time If I try and push it 110/120 then it will climb to 11/12 but it will sit all day at 100klm even with air on, as said above, sluggish on hills but you live with it. Would love to wack a turbo on it but with those sort of klms a bit worried it will go bang. But in saying that I have heard of people getting 400k/500k with a turbo and still going strong. My'n has solid front end. I change my oil & filter every 3k without fail as the 2.8 are known for glagging up . Wont be selling my'n any time soon reckon there a good reliable truck without all the electrnic stuff to go wrong. Regars Steve M :P
