There was only 1 80 series that was rated at 3.5T from memory all of them except the sahara special edition were rated to tow 2.5T

Tom
I am not 100% but I think it is more along a date of manufacture line; after 1996(???) has the higher rating? that said, Adams 40 on a trailer would not be over 2500kg.
My Trailer is no heavy weight trailer and it still weighs 750KG. Adams Cruiser would have to be 2T+. Even a real light Car trailer will only get down to around 500KG and then its not going to hold together towing a cruiser. The other problem most people dont think about is that most car Trailers are rated at 2000KG this includes the weight of the trailer.
you're right, I was thinking 3.5 ton but talking 2.5 ton. still it would be close - tare weight of a FJ40 is only 1700ish though (?) - surely Adams would be close to that - a lot of bodywork stripped off, but tyres/bars etc added on. yeah maybe closer to 2 ton. nothing for it Ads, you're going to have to build a buggy.

Forget the Courier. The 2.6l four cyl is a mitsu and the head (12v) is Mazda. Replacement motors from the wreckers start at $2500 with 30 day warranty while a head would set you back $1500. A change over donk starts around $3500.

I towed a trailer of around 700KG 400Km (Campbelltown-Milbradale-campbelltown) and it used 48lt of fuel each way. I also once had a - edit - Afla Alfetta - on a tandem trailer and to get up one steep hill I had to go 1st low  and creep up it. I drive 64Km a day (two and from work) and it cost me $48 to $58 in fuel for 5 days and this is not the normal Sydney commuter traffic, it is sitting on 60Ks with almost no stops.

As a tow vehicle, they are the greatest POS around.

looks like chopping up the courier is a good place to start the buggy!

hey Nev, if you hate the raider so much, why don't you cut your losses and ditch it for, say, ANY other 4WD?
