Can anyone help with the differences between the F75 and other F.. models down under.
I have a 2.8L diesel F75, LWB Rocky (1987 - early) but the gearbox is yuk - grates into second, jumps out etc. Transfer case seems OK.
I am looking at another but SWB diesel (1985) for spares but there seems to be a few differences. Mine has P/S, A/C, and a push button for 4H with just 2/4H, and 4L options in the transfer case.
The other has no P/S, A/C, and the transfer case is manual selection for 2H,4H, and 4L.
I have also heard that there are two different types of gearboxes with the diesel Rocky, one with an alloy bell housing and one cast. If anyone can shed any light on any of the above it would be appreciated. In particular the Gearbox and transfer case. Re mine, is there some form of soleniod in the Transfer case that switches into 4WD when the button is pushed. Can they be swapped around?

Here is some info I posted on another Daihatsu forum. It may help you.
For anyone who is interested, here are the model description codes for the F70/80 series models.
Eg F75RV-MBHTW
70 SWB with DL 2765 cc diesel engine
75 LWB with DL 2765 cc diesel engine
77 Utility with DL 2765 cc diesel engine
80 SWB with 3Y 1998 cc petrol engine
85 LWB with 3Y 1998 cc petrol engine
87 Utility with 3Y 1998 cc petrol engine
R or L
Steering wheel position, right or left
V or none, V is hardtop, none is soft top or utility
M or none, M is 5 speed, none is 4 speed
B roof type, B is resin top, P is pickup/utility, none is other types of roof apart from resin top
H trim specification, H is EL, D is DX, R is STD
T is turbo charged motor
W is destination market, W is European market, Q is Australian market, none is other markets.
Heres hoping this deciphers some of these gobbledegook for you.
The 2H-4H-4L pattern transfer case is the earlier one. The push botton 4wd select came later. You should be able to retrofit the earlier transfer case as they were virtually the same, but if memory serves correct, the ratios changed slightly with the turbo charged motors. I know a turbo charged motor bolted straight up to my original non turbo gearbox. I have never heard of any alloy bell housings on Rockys. I know mine is all cast ironl, and bloody HEAVY.
