Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me what the factory spottie wiring loom is rated for on a GU? I have a factory loom on my Rally 2000's with 130 watt globes and my own loom on my Hella 140's running 100 watt globes.
The 140's are heaps brighter than the 2000's to the point the 2000's are hardly missed if turned off! Both looms are fused and have relays. My loom has heavier wire than the factory setup but the 2000's were still dull when they had 100watt globes in them.
I'm getting to the point i am gunna rip out the factory setup and run my own heavier wired loom. I just don't think the factory loom is heavy enough? I originally also had my fuel gauge dropping when switching on my spotties but have remedied that problem with a heavy earth strap from the battery to the chassis.

Use a multimeter on the Volts range and put one probe on the battery positive and the other on the spotty globe positive (or as close as you can get) and see what sort of voltage reading you get. Then do the same thing from the battery negative to the globe negative and get another reading. Spotties need to be on!
Add the two together and you've got voltage losses through the cabling etc. If it's > 0.5V then a rewire should give a noticeable gain in brightness.

rewire them, get some heavy guage wire and do it properly. Im an electricain so i get cable for nothing (we just stripped out a building, i didnt steal it) my new spotties are wired in 10mm cable, one cable for each two spotlights. i also ran the -ve back to the battery so i dont have a problem there either.
Thanks for the replies guys, I have a multimeter so will do that check & i have already run earths from all spotties back to the battery. That's what makes me think the wiring is not heavy enough. I'd nearly bet they would be ok on 55watt globes but i'm not going there. I think i will be doing up a new loom this weekend!

Well we ran the multimeter over it all and there is five fifths of bugger all difference between them all so i guess the only thing i can come up with is that Rallye 2000 spotties are crap and i will be ditching them!! No good having spots that don't perform............Pete!
