Cleaning stuff on your trucks

Ok, after being away and gettin nice and muddy, I decided to 'detail' my rocky, but the very annoying thing when you spend 2hrs+ washing your car, is then seeing lots of missed spots after your finished on that note, what would/could you use to clean/polish a aluminium bullbar, I was thinking maybe 'Silvo'? I know there was other stuff too but cant remeber now, the bullbar was the most annoying though cuz no matter how hard I hit it with the pressure cleaner, or rubbed it with a cloth there was still a brownish colouring from mud and dust.

When I had my alloy bar I used orange hand cleaner containing a little grit and a rag to rub it in then hose it off.

I dont mind about my body/bullbar being a bit brown, just shows its being used, i use $10 at the car wash with the high pressure just washing all under mine clean and all the mud off the body, would take $20 if u wanted to have a scrub at it..

purple polish, I know heaps of truckies and bikies that sware by it for there rigs and rides......works very well, you can get it at truckline I think is the place, there is one on newton rd wetherill park

Try a product called Autosol on your bullbar - with some elbow grease it'll come up like chrome. Most car accessory places sell it.

Nothing works better than this stuff!! And its easy to boot!

It's a creme paste stuff and you buy it in a tube for liek $10-$15.. the best mate

Purple polish, its the EASIEST polish to use by far. Hard to find but you'd do your bull bar in 5 minutes or less.

ok.. can I ask what is the best way to get a clean engine bay and remove excess oil, etc from leaks..

Its been suggested to me to just get a can of degreaser and spray the engine bay when your at car lovers, then use their high pressure gear to clean it up..


does anyone have any other, better suggestions?

can you use AUTOSOL on your engine?? And can you by it from repco/supercheap?

yeh u can get it from supercheap u can get anything there. u could also try a product called bright and shine comes in a lil tin, it's a rag and brings chrome and aloy up nicely.

only better way would be to get two cans of degreaser, IMO. Let is soak for a little while for the really thick chunky stuff. It does a surprisingly good job.

ct18 truckwash and ct18 degreaser, just spray it all over ur engine bay left it soak a while and hose it off, do it at car lovers as it will kill ur lawn

yer at work we polish alloy bars and racks
( im a sheety so i dont polish)
we use
3 types of stuff to polish

we use
a heavy grit polish once it been sanded
then we use mirror finish ( the name of the product)
or reflection (also the name of the product)

the reflection i can highly recomend
i use it to buff stuff up alot better than silvo
but havnt tried it on old caroded alloy

the only advice ican give when polishing is
get some attachments for your grinder on so you can sand it and a buff pad will have it done in a hour if that


i will talk to the boss and see if i can get a bit of the heavy grit polish and some reflection or mirror finish if your interested

dunno if anyone saw it, but on mythusters they used coke and scrunched aluminium foil, they said it worked better than the product they used

"Teepol Gold", its a shell product and kicks arse over any other wash , and its not a polish , ive been using it for years on dirt bikes and the alloy rims, swing arm , radiators and motor come up grouse , spray it on out of a pump up pressure washer , 10 bucks at bunnings , have a stubby then hose it off .

haha, i forgot about that, they poured like cow blood all over the place, including a chrome bar on a caddy or sumthing, let it dry, and then tested coke agianst sumthing else and coke totally whipped it, will try coke tomorrow if i get the time.

CT 18 for all the muddy bits, spray it on and leave it for 5 mins then hose,
AUTOSOL will give incredable results, use wet & dry sand paper first then hit with autosol & massive amounts of elbow grease.
Hint CRC or even mixed two stroke oil spayed everywere under the bonnet will assist cleaning, dust will be attracted but the layer of oil will stop the dirt sticking to surfaces, so when time to clean it falls off.Bit of a trick i have used on dirt bikes & sprint cars.

Best thing I ever found was a product called Turco ( I think).
It's an aviation grade alloy polish and brings it up like a mirror. Really good stuff.
Bought it from a mob in Beenleigh. Got put onto it by a truckie who used to use it on his alloy wheels, bullbar and all the rest of the bling on his truck.
