Blown head gasket? Help Please...

My radiator has run dry, and my engine oil level is up and is contaminated, with coolant (i assume).
My bro reckons the head gasket is blown. Does everyone agree? Or could there be another problem?
It's a Hilux 22R (2.4 petrol), it was driving, but lacking power.
Help appreciated,

Did the engine overheat?

If your lucky it's just a head gasket, if it got hot it could be a cracked block or cracked/warped head.

Oil - take the filler cap off and if its a creamy colour thats bad.
Water - no water, definately a bad thing.
Is it running really really rough? my old corolla did its head gasket/head and ran worse than a bucket of bolts.
If its still running 'reasonably' well, you might have just blown the gasket into the water jacket.

Take it to a mechanic or pull it apart yourself, lots of things could have gone wrong...

But really... i wouldnt drive it anymore until you pull it apart, things will only get worse man.

My Subaru did a head gasket and there was sooo much steamy smoke coming out of the exhaust I couldnt see out my rear window :cry:

It was running fairly well still, just a bit sluggish off the mark. So I might be lucky. :?

Thanks everyone. I'm gona pull the head off myself and see what's going down.

I've pulled the head off. Is there anything in particular I should look for?
The gasket isn't visibly damaged.
Should I just take the head to an engine shop?

Your going to have to have a real good look for blow-by somewhere,
or cracks ect. Do those engines have an alloy head? If so, check
nothings warped, especialy if you've cooked it. Get the steel ruler happening as a straight edge and check the plugs for clues.

Yeah, alloy head. The top of the pistons have carbon build up on them, and around the top edge of the cylinder.

As long as its consistant on every cylinder dont worry,
your looking for something thats not consistant in a
cylinder or on a plug to home in on a problem
