:? seriously considering a swb MQ or GQ patrol (or ford MAV swb) but i dont know too much about them, there a big car & prob $$$ to run? going to look at a 2.8ulp tomoz but they would be gutless so unsure weather its worth having a look
best to have an open mind. i need a car by monday so i either waste $50-$700 on a bunkie so i can get around or i buy a forbie this w/e

nada :!:  they have been sold (cheepies that is), looked at the patrol- fairly nice as far as looks go bit gutless went full throt up a steep hill from standing, she didnt like that :? struggled with not much chance of seeing her recover, if i were to get it i would defently go electic ignition and EFI this would help alot....another prob is hes asking $7,000 he said it had been recently rebuilt by a "mate" of course :? ...if i had done the rebuild i would be ashamed to put my name to it  15,000 or so and leaking a fair bit of oil

why dont you buy a cheap toyota and use it for your donor parts when you find a LWB.. I am a bit surprised that you are so picky about how powerfull the mav was... since you want a zook anyways. :)

its not just that alot of the boys at work told me to stay away from the 2.8s they recomended the patrol in the 3.3 litre diesel. they have been in the trade longer than me so i will take there word when say they have alot of probs. the toyota idea is bloody good i was thinking about that just not sure if it would be worth it

Really seems that you need to work out exactly what you want from your next ride.....

I have had an 85 MK SWB SD33T powered Patrol and it was both powerful enough to push 35in tyres and very reliable. It broke stuff yes cause it was used hard offroad but was nowhere near unreliable.....don't listening to everything everywhen says......Only real worry with early Patrols is rust.......

As I said make up your mind and go searching and don't wander cause you will regret it in the long run......

Took me 15mths to find an orginal straight LWB zook and I am glab I persisted....

hill top hoods fcuking own!

back to the topic, i agree that finding a very tidy lwb will be a slow and expensive exercise. last one i saw in SA (on the net) was $9000 in a caryard, and it was no-mods, low km 1.3 wt.
are you looking for stockmans (stockmen?) as well?
traybacks are more common, and usually cheaper
ht zook with bog, rust and mt's

i want anything, tray back would be desireable prob easier to mod & look a bit neater if i decide to go with an exo. the body doesnt have to be in great nick i just dont want anything with to much cancer. and i couldnt care if the k's have gone around the clock once as i plane to change just about everything in the long run. i have decided im prepared to spend upto $15,000 by the time i have finished if thats what it takes to have something im happy with.

alot of my mates are buying brand new rigs patrol's, courier's & such for $30,000-$40,000. which seems pointless if i can make a 4b thats a hell of alot more capable and prob 1/2 the price :)

thats the idea anyway
