GQ "popping" coils
GQ "popping" coils
Hi all,
I have encountered a strange problem with my Safari during the weekend.
I keep popping the left rear coil on full travel, but the right is fine.
I have jacked the truck up, and the left coil appears 2-3" too short, but when I jack the right side, it is fine.
The truck sits level, and coil/shock lengths appear the same, and each side seems to have even "droop" when jacked up.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Dave

it is possible also to get uneven sag in springs thats it they were the same to begin with....... a mates 80 sagged to the left and if there's enough play out she comes..........
replace springs,
panards
then check shocks and then chains or cones may be the next option.....

I think this may be normal. When I had my rear sway bar removed, my mechanic fitted a spring retainer, but only to one side, can't remember which side now, passenger side I think. He said it is only necessary on one side.
I do have adjustable panhards, but they aren't really necessary for the 3" lift I have.
Get a spring retainer fitted, only costs a few bucks for somebody to make you one up....

Maybe tie it in. There is no way I would be spending any money to achieve less flex if it sits level.
The passenger coils are meant to be shorter than the drivers side coils. This allows for the weight of the battery, you and the spare tyre.

Yes. I seem to have this problem too. I spat the rear left coil out on trees revenge at the Nissan Trials. Didn't think too much about it until I went to the Climax Open Day ramp comp in Newy. When I was on the ramp at full travel i could have pulled the left rear away from the mount but on the right rear I could not budge it.

just curious if you guys have the coffin fuel tank on the drivers side as by default it is only set up for a 2 inch lift because of the upper trailing arm hitting it on right hand side. I have been told this can be fixed with a mod to the tank but i haven't been energetic to get it done yet.

nissan's always droop easier on the left side. this normal. you shoud have noticed the springs were easier to fit on the left side when fitting. i think it has something to do with the way the panhards pivot.either fit coil packers or make some cones or even just straight pipe will do fine.
