Hubs!!
Hubs!!
Hey when i try to change my hubs between free to lock and vice versa they are hard as.. i need to use a crsent or plyers or something to actually turn it!!! They are impossible to do by hand...
This happened after a major bogging in some mud in brunswick!!
How can i fix this? and how long will it take..
Is this a really bad sign?
cheers
thanks

If you want a temporary fix then try and spray wd40 or a similar product in between the inner hub where the small gap is. whatever you use make sure it does leave residue otherwise it will dry up to quickly.
hope this helps.
otherwise you can pull the hub apart and clean and lubricate everything, but to my understanding hubs are not as simple as what many people think...

just undo the 6 bolts holding the bit u twist to the hub pull it off cleen it make sure it works smoothly smeer grese all over it....dont fill it with grees just smeer it on.....put the twist thing to unlock n make sure the dog clutch thing is all the way in...not hanging out on the pring.....then put it back in twist it a few times n see if it made a difference
......that part of the hub is not very complicated should do it easy

This is at a minimum, to do the job properly, remove the curclip at the rear of the hub (behind the part that you turn) when you do this be ready to catch the indent ball and spring that may fall out (remove them if they don't) gentely remove the "O" ring clean and lightly lube everything and reassemble you want grease on the male and female splines and the course treaded cage at the end of the spring and where they meet, as superzuki says don't fill it with grease just lube it.superzuki wrote:just undo the 6 bolts holding the bit u twist to the hub pull it off cleen it make sure it works smoothly smeer grese all over it....dont fill it with grees just smeer it on.....put the twist thing to unlock n make sure the dog clutch thing is all the way in...not hanging out on the pring.....then put it back in twist it a few times n see if it made a difference

hahaha myself, kyle and a few other guys got some crap like that in mundaring/sawyers... it looked hard and had grass growing on it - kyle got stuck to the chassis, so i come in at 90 degrees on the grassy area to pull him out and sink to my chassis... at one stage there was 4 of us all stuck =P
took a hilux with 2 straps to pull me out, then a cruiser on 36's to get kyle out, then a few attempts from other vehicles to get the stuck hilux and pathfinder out... haha it took like 2 hours.

I offered him $50 for pulling me out he wouldnt accept it just said to drink more milk!! so my bones are pretty strong now!!

Good price. What wreckers was that. was it the AEB wreckers or similar to that?
Only replace the otherside if faulty - should be ok for now if u keep care of it.
cheers

I find this often.
Peter.
yeh the other side is a bit hard but livable..
nah truck wreckers in bunbury... they have my number so whenever a sierra comes in i get first look at it...
Gearbox in it is $550 in good condition...
Transfer case is screwed and motor/carby already gone!
im thinking $50 for the other hub might be the way to go.. they feel like new slide with ease..
+ i found out i put my hubs in the wrong way (doesnt seem to make a difference) just didnt attach the ring shaft thingie to the spring
ah feels so good i dont have to use plyers to change all the time now!

i grabbed the bonnet off it, the gearbox is 5 speed..
mustve been well maintained.. apparnetly when it got bought in all the shocks had broken or something happened to the suspension cant remember what the guy said.. sounds like they just did something stupid that was going to cost 2 much to fix..
cheers
