Ok I am p****d off with search. It sucks.
I am wondering is it possible to put Vitara brakes all round onto a sierra?
Also is it feesable/worthwhile putting a vitara gearbox into a sierra along with the sierra tcase. Blocking off the front cv's....
If yes to all I will get a vitara and swap them over.
Oh and are those mods legal. I would assume so with the brakes as it increases the braking abillity.

vitara bits ----> sierra
i dont understand what you are wanting to do?
ok, vitara brakes? are you talking about the disc rotors AND calipers? from what i've seen and read, Vit brakes aren't that much better than sierra brakes, unless you get a GV, or XL-7 where they have vented rotors etc etc.
by just changing the rear drums to discs, you will find that braking is pretty much 100% better, providing you set it all up properly with a proportioning valve, and a hand brake of some sort, unless you have a tail shaft hand brake.
you will need to make up some brakets for the rear discs, or you can just buy some from BBM or SNAKE racing or something.
and why would you want a vitara 5 speed to replace the sierra 5 speed? the vitara has a mated transfer, and a sierra obviously has a divorced transfer. why go through all the trouble of fitting a vit gear box to a 1.3, and then pull the vit transfer off and try to mate up the sierra transfer.
you could mate a vit gearbox and transfer up to the 1.3, and then have the 2nd sierra transfer on the end of that, but you would never have enough room in a swb. let alone going to the trouble of cutting the front output off, and then having to make new mounts for the set up.
and LEGAL? i wouldnt think any of it would be, even just converting rear drums to discs. i'm not bagging, but i dont understand what you want to do, just trying to help out.

Re: vitara bits ----> sierra
You will need a mod plate for the gearbox swap and the disc brake rear end. If done properly both could be approvel.midnight wrote:Ok I am p****d off with search. It sucks.

Don't bother. Rear disc setup is by far the easiest upgrade and its complianceable.
Also is it feesable/worthwhile putting a vitara gearbox into a sierra along with the sierra tcase.
Yes its possible to put a vitara gearbox in, but completely piontless if you are still running the 1.3, as there is no gains at all. You will need an adapter to the gearbox from the engine, new mounts for the gearbox, cut new hole in the transmission tunnel for the sticks, but only after you have widened the tunnel by about 2".
Blocking off the front cv's....
CV's go into the front diff on a vit. Not the gearbox.????

sticks not lining up
widened tunnel
gearbox mount

I was trying to say: Get a vit box, LEAVE THE TCASE IN, and have a sierra tcase hooked up to the back of it. Block off the front cv outlets.SiKiD_01 wrote: and why would you want a vitara 5 speed to replace the sierra 5 speed? the vitara has a mated transfer, and a sierra obviously has a divorced transfer. why go through all the trouble of fitting a vit gear box to a 1.3, and then pull the vit transfer off and try to mate up the sierra transfer.
Does that tell you anything.
Obviosuly I didnt explain it good enough.
Why wouldnt it be legal. If I got it engineered properly and got a cert. for it, it should be.
I was planning on doing the usuall 1.6 donk swap.
But if I got a wrecked vit, took the brakes, motor, gearbox and put them into a sierra.
If the cv,s go into the diff (which is sposed to be inside the box casing) then why isnt the tcase on the outside with a driveshaft going to the front diff?
Block the cvs off to stop the oil draining out. I was going to do this to my subaru.
I know of a fabricator person. He will be building my cage for me.
He could possibly make the mounts.

so you want to run these items in a sierra?!?!
Vitara Engine Great idea! legal too.
Vitara 5sp G'boxI have this too. dunno how it works yet but its a bigger stronger box tho.
sierra transferhas been done before..
Now I don't understand what you mean about "cv outlets"???
A vitara runs a married transfer case, whick means instead of being attatched to the gearbox via a jack shaft; like the sierra; it is bolted onto the gearbox with about 8 or 10 bolts. There is an internal chamber between the the gearbox and transfercase where the output shaft from the gearbox is met by the input shaft reciever on the transfer case. The transfer case then has 2 slip joints on the lower front and upper back of the case. These are the out put shafts. one is for drive to the front diff, and one is for drive to the rear diff. Drive is transfered by drive shafts, just like your sierra. There is a front shaft and a rear shaft. The front diff is a short, cradle like gizmo. It has the diff centre in it, just like your sierra does. But instead of having long axle tubes that run all the way to the outside of the car, it has an inner CV, followed by a short intermediate axle shaft, then another CV, then a stub axle. the CV's are most definatelty not related to the opperation of the vitara gearbox, or transfer case. So I do not understand what you mean when you say you want to block off the CV's......??

Vitaras actually have more highway friendly transfer and gearbox ratios, so no, there is no offroad advantage. you will actually need to remove your 3.7:1 diff ratios and fit some vitara 5.2:1 ratios just to keep stock gearing. you can order 5.83's from the states too!
In the above comments, were you asking if it were possible to run dual transfers? I re-read your question....
If you were to keep the vitara transfer case, and run that into the sierra case, you would actuall have to cut the entire bottom half of the vit transfer case off, and have it alloy welded shut again. Without doing this there is no room for your new front shaft to pass through and to the front diff.
MAJOR MODS REQUIRED!!!
