thanks all
thanks all
have to agree that this site doesnt really offer as much of the other jeep specialised sites, but as Wooders pointed out there is heaps of info avail, and some expert Jeepers here too, just need to ask.
I visit here just to see how many of you guys get lured into the dark side , cos Im never going back LOL

Jeep for keep
Thats cool. Well i get the jeep tommorow, its a 96 Grand cherokee Limited. In great condition. Its got 200,000 on the clock, i realise thats a bit much, but i think the price of 9500 is pretty good. I would really like to put 33's on it ultimately, but from what i have heard it starts to get comlicated once you go past 31's. What kind of money am i looking at to go up to 33's?
Cheers guys.
Cheers guys.
Plus the rest...buddha wrote:$5000 to $8000
To lift a ZJ/ZG enough for 33's you really need to either chop a lot or put in about 5 + inches of lift. You will have massive vibe issues unless you install a NP242 (Cherokee) or NP231 (Wrangler) as there is no Slip Yoke Eliminator available for the ZG Transfer Case.
hey all i got the jeep and i love it. Way more pimpin than the suzuki. One question, how do i get the cd stacker open? Well what are the biggest tyres i can go on this thing reasonably and how much am i looking at for a 3 1/2 inch lift that i hear a bit about? And does it have bang for buck on the uneven dirt?
xj
I too am looking for a 4x4 at around the $10000. mark. I see one of you said the XJ is the way to go would it still be the $5000 to $8000 and some mark to modify it? Im after something with decent fuel econamy and not to hard and expensive to modify. 33 or bigger tyres, diff locks maybe and obviously some suspension lift. got any suggestions guys?
Re: xj
If you go with 31's then you can lift it 3-4" and they'll fit. You would also be able to disconect the front swaybar offroad and get much more travel still without it rubbing. To fit 33's you'd need to trim the guards and have 4" of lift at least. You'd also need diferent offset wheels (33's are too wide for stock wheels) and would definatley need a slip yoke eliminator to get rid of drive line vibrations at 4"s. $5000 would probabky get you 33's under an XJ.MONGREL wrote:I too am looking for a 4x4 at around the $10000. mark. I'm running 31 MTR's under the ZJ right now with a 40mm coil spacer lift. No problems at all apart from a little rubbing.
Don't try and go bigger - they physically won't fit - Iv'e tried! Towing is poor once you go above the 30" tyre size.
Be more concerned with leaky welsh plugs, leaky rear main seal, water pump and hoses, any noise AT ALL from the rear D35 diff ($$$$$), and any hesitations from the Electronic selection on the Quady Auto.
Otherwise all will be great. Good machine to play in.
