im about to take my radiator out and clean it properly from all the mud build up. while its out i want to fluch the water jackets and all, just want to see the correct procedure for this and if there is anything else i should do while its out........
dude.
drop the top hose off and the bottom hose also.
chuck the hose in the top and flush it that way.
then do the radiator also from the bottom inlet and out through the top.

radiatot flush
Flush both engine and radiator from bottom to top and then refit lower hose. Leave the top hose off to the side and fill radiator with garden hose and leave hose running. Let the engine run. When the thermostat opens it will push out any old water and crap thats in the system while you filling with fresh water. Revving the engine will increase the flow and circulation. Keep doing this till its all clear, refit hose and add coolant... Will be doing this to mine this week, cheers

To flush it properly I would remove it. It's a bit hard to get the water flowing through all the coolant paths if it's closed.mickyd555 wrote:10000 members and noone knows if i should remove the thermostat to flush the engine.......![]()

Buy a concentrated coolant if you are concerned about water being left in the block. Provided you know the total capacity you then just add the correct amount of concentrate and top up with distilled water until it's full.

Also, whatever you do, don't flush gunk from the radiator INTO the engine. It doesn't sound like that's what you were planning but I just thought I'd mention it anyway.

take the hoses of the eng/rad flush the rad first ,till clean
remove the thermostate [replace while doing the job n check hoses too]
then flush motor out ,there are drain plugs in the block if you wish to be ultra padantic about it
there are even rad flushes at repco to or purchase some from a rad shop.
if its really bad take it too a rad shop,after that re install system in fill with coolant
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MAJORITY OF THE AIR LOCKS OUT N CHECK YOUR COOLANT LEVEL AFTER THE FIRST INTIAL DRIVES

To clean the internal water paths you can put in a bottle of radiator flush and run the car for a while.... Then to clean the radiator even better, remove the radiator and get it power flushed by your local radiator guru.. then take out your thermostat and flush water through using a hose with motor running DO THIS WHEN COLD as cold water in a hot motor is not good.
To make up your coolant amount.. just calculate the required amount and put it in first... then fill the rest of the system with demin. water...
