Hilux with the shakes
Hi i have an LN 106 lux with ORI extended shackles and two inch lifted springs. My car has developed a nasty shudder that has gradually become worse. It is only when i take off, like in first gear. It shudders as i take off but once in second gear and cruising is not noticable. It is worse when the car is under load like doing a hill start.
Any ideas as to what this might be so i can fix it before it breaks.

It happened after i put the 1KZ-TE motor and gearbox in but i cant uinderstand how it can be anything internal but i am open to sugestions.

This gives a clue as to what it would be. If its only on take off, I can't see it being anything to do with tyres, alignment etc.Luv to 4B wrote: It is only when i take off, like in first gear. If your clutch is shot or not gripping (maybe due to new powerful engine) it can produce a nasty shudder that would be more prevailent when it came to hill starts and such.
If its more of a vibration than a shudder (and still only happening when under load and such) then I would say your centre bearing or rear unis are shot.
My money is on the clutch for this one...

Mines doing exactly the same with 3L motor, just had new clutch and new centre bearing put in, so could be mounts, mines done it since I swapped my front diff centre to the rear, could be pinion, just been to lazy to put new one in.

dunno if this helps, but my V6 had the same problem, especially first thing in the morning and then occassionally during the day, BUT ALWAYS in first gear AND NEVER off road.
I tracked it down to axle tramp, as my rear springs where getting worse and worse, they were the OE from Toyo. Got new Tough Dog leafs, and only have the problem once in a blue moon when im lazy with the cluth and right foot.

SIMILAR SITUATION
Mine is getting a vibration at speeds around 90kmph and above on the freeway. Feels like wheel alignment shudder but only happened after changing a clutch. Checked all mounting points & wheel balancing weights. all there and none moved or missing as far as i can see. What else could it be?

I just had the same problem. like the clutch gips lets go a little and grips again about 4 times a second.
And I replaced the clutch and the centre bearing at the same time. Have to have it disconnected anyway so why not. (mine was completly stuffed anyway).

While the 1st gear problem the others are having sounds like clutch, I think your problem (at 90km/h plus) is more likely to be in the tailshaft. I would have said your uni joints are probably flogged out but since you say it only started happening after you replaced the clutch it is most likely that your tailshaft was not put back in the correct position. The unis should be inline. Its best to mark the flanges before you remove them so you make sure it goes back the way it came off. See if that fixes your problem.benhl wrote:SIMILAR SITUATION

Thats what i thought also but i didn't disconnect the tailshaft from the diff end only the GB/Tranny end and dropped the centre bearing down also. The splines yoke area didn't dissconnect. The only thing i could guess is that thw moving of the centre bearing etc has made it loose or put some sort of strain on it and stuffed it. i'm going to take the rear tail shatf off and engage gear and rev to highway speed and check but 99% certain that it is a tailshatf/centre bearing issue. Do i fix or get a 1 piece TS??

mine does the same thing, exept i have the vp engine swap with the auto gear box so i know my problem is not with the clutch obviously, im thinking tail shaft or uni's, mine also does it a tiny bit at about 30k's coming to a stop
