QLDers in the know
QLDers in the know
Hey folks,
As the weather begins to warm up in the coming months I know we'll all be running around with our tops off (hopefully the female passengers too).
However, how many of your run doorless as well?
Seeing as though there are NO side intrusion bars of any kind in a suzuki door, does anyone know the legalities of running doorless?
Seen a couple getting around without doors last summer but didn't want to get pinged by the cops.
If you REALLY KNOW if you can or can not please share.
All I need to do now is lay a new floor in the ski boat ready for the summer time fun.

AFAIK, you can run your Zook doorless (as it was designed to do), but you MUST have a drivers side mirror attached to the vehicle, close to where the one on the door would normally be.
Loads of people down here in Mexico run their Zooks minus doors and just have rear vision mirrors attached to the A-pillar.

It's all to do with the structural integrity. If the vehicle relies on the doors being in place to maintain a certain level of rigidity then they must not be removed.
The simple answer is this: If the vehicle complies with ADR 37 (I think it's 37) then you must run doors. If your vehicle doesn't have to comply with this then you don't have to run doors but you must have a drivers side mirror.
Check your compliance plate and you'll find that sierra's don't have to comply with ADR 37 so you can legally run without doors.
Regards,
Matt.

Thanks Matt,
This has been a hotly talked about topic with friends. Finally someone comes up with some legal information.
You're a champ.

all qld government website have to comply with information standard 26. inside of this all government website are forced to comply with what is called the C.U.E (consistent user experience).
it's the biggest load of shit. can never find anything on any qld government website.
so my search for a list of the ADR continues. i could go to goprint and order a copy for $75, but ouchies, I only need one or two sections from it. heheheheh

I bought an LJ-80 in about 1992 and took it over rego to have it changed to my name without doors or a roof on it. Got knocked back on alot of stuff, but there was no problem with having no doors.
I havn't checked it myself yet, but the Qld Transport specs are written about the ADR's. It might be worth checking out this site; http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/driver.nsf/index/vehiclemods
theres a download at the end which should cover whether you require a compliance plate or not in Qld for most mod's..
