RUF + Hilux rear leaves

I've got Suzuki rear leaves up front, in much the same way Nicbeer has done his (move the rear mount back), but want to change to shackle reversed and to get a bit more wheelbase.

"Yeah cool, just check out Redzook's ute" you say. It's a good setup but I am wondering if it will work for me. My main difference is that I am only running a 31" tall tyre, as opposed to Tim's 37s. I don't want to lose all my approach angle with a long chassis extension. I could move the springs back and use a smaller extension, but i'm not sure if that would work any good. So at the moment I am stuck between these three choices:

1. Do the SR with Hilux leaves like Tim's
2. Do the SR with Hilux leaves with a shorter chassis extension
3. Use a shorter spring eg, Sierra rear

Whaddya reckon?

my front diff is around 6.5- 7 inch forward over stock

i dont think u will need it that far stretched with 31's



u will only need to move the front mount around 1.5" forward of the stock mount to achive the same wheelbase

so if you move the front mount foward 4.5" wich is only a reasonabley small extension ur front diff will end up around 3 inch forward wich would be good for the 31's

I didn't realise you were running your diff that far forward Tim. Sounds like I will use the 'Lux leaves then.

I am keeping the Zook diffs at the moment (NTs + spacers at the moment but have WTs in the shed, so will be leaving the leaves under the chassis rails (as the NT has stock), that'll allow me to put the shackles through the chassis like you mentioned.

Damo - have a look at my buildup thread (UFO Buildup) - theres pics of my approach angle on 31's with lux fronts all round... if i remember correctly its 60 degrees?

Hilux fronts are a bit shorter than rears arent they?

yep... bout the same difference as zuk fronts and rears... but the rear has the offset pin (not in the middle) so you can acheive pretty close to the same angles as lux fronts if you ran them backwards (short end sticking out).

another thing to take into account if you're putting the leaf inside the chassis, is the front flares out slightly, its not much but would be enough to throw things out a few mm.

actually toyota rears will give alot better approach angle then toyota front springs

Have u thought of using jackaroo or maz808 springs as i am sure they fit into the zook hangers. Or jeep springs

Had a look at Mazdas but I have a set of Hilux sitting there doing nothing so i'd rather use them. I've also got a set of Snake Racing brackets to suit the 'lux springs kicking around here somewhere, which will save me some time.

I'll have to remember that when I put them in. I will take a measurement from centre of chassis rail to centre of chassis rail at the point where the shackles will be mounted (remembering this will be shackle reversed) and when I do the crossmember at the front make sure the 2 hangers centres are that far apart. Easy peasy

i have feroza rears in the front of mine, with a chassis extension and SR. I love this set up has good aproach angle, nice and soft and loves to climb!!
For the rear i have lux fronts, running 2 leaves + overload..= shit, way to firm and stuff all flex compared to the front.

id reccomend you run feroza rears as Tim would know there quite good spring rate for a zook.

I already have a set of 'lux rears. I'm pretty sure Tim is running 'lux rears up front now but by the sounds of it the Feroza rears are pretty similar. There you go, Ferozas are actually good for something
