GQ diff oils
GQ diff oils
workshop manual recommends hypoid 80W90 for my front and rear diffs (rear is locker)
is it worth changing the oil in both my diffs to 140?
I was told it'd be a good idea, especially if the car will cop a lot of harsh driving (and lets face it, it will )
anyone out there done this and can recommend it too?
pros and cons to doing it?
Looking for some decent input, as the whole 4x4 thing is new to me.
Cheers,
Brian.

140 will use more fuel than a 90 and may not protect it any better than another brand of 90 would have.
If you do decide to go 140 consider this one Castrol SAF-XA 75w-140. This is about as good as they come, you could thrash it for 60k and probably still be protected but thats not advisable, also the 75w denotes easy cold start lubrication.
The price will scare you, it did me at $25 per L, now if they only made it in a 75w-90 as well, I like my economy.
cheers
