My question is will a lt230 from a zf auto swap straight on
to a R380 man. with out any mods???????
My td5 is used 90% highway & I want the higher ratio
high range.

It will bolt up to the R380 OK.
If it came from a Disco II it may not have the centre diff lock.
And may not have a speedo drive - but you could swap the housing and speedo drive from your old LT230.
If your handbrake mounts to the side of the LT230, you may have to drill and tap 3 new holes - the later ones have the bosses but are not drilled.
While it is out, you should check the input gear for wear in the splines and if it is the type with the cross drilled lube hole.
I would also replace the seals and check the bearings.
