Question: Toyota engines(v6) for Hilux

I was curious about what sort of toyota engines were easy fit on hilux. Basically engines from Supras, crown, soarers and so on. I've heard a few conversions using those sort of engines and I wanted to know if they were worth the conversion and your opinion on them.

for a start the supra crown and cressida all have strait 6 not v6 but you can get more info from http://www.4wd.net.nz/suprasurf.htm this is the place you need to go to find out about info on using these motors

Lexus/Camry V6 - but they're not a good motor to use.

Bite the bullet and put in a 3.8 commodorre (pref with supercharger)

Just as fuel efficient as a commodore V6, but sh!tloads better....Lexus V8...full conversion cost me just over $6000......

I wouldn't be putting in a como v6
I would be putting in a 3rzfe or a lexus v8
3rz fe cost me about $2500 to install (myself)
i have just over 100hp at the wheels
and its a stright bolt in

100hp is MORE then enough to break EVERY single piece of hilux running gear.

The problem with the como v6 conv. is the over heating issus that you WILL have if you do it. The only upside is that you end up with an auto.

Seem to read about this a lot with the lux- the running gear will eventually break with any power upgrade.

Sounds like the 3rz is the cheapest way. Any other bigger donk will probably require a stronger gearbox to make it last.

Commo v6 and auto isn't a bad choice if you can get the conversion bits cheap. From what I've read tho you will need to throw a few $$$ at the auto to make it reliable.

I have been told by people like Mike at Superior to do it right with stage 3 shift kit, getting speed sensors and all the shit to do it right it would cost around $6000 to do it your self and getting up around $10000 for it installed.

3RZFE or 1UZFE lexus V8 are much better options. 3RZFE is the more sensible option. But if you are just after the noise and power to break sh1t on command then go the 1UZFE lexus V8 :twisted:

Why is it that everyone always says this? I gave mine a flogging the other week out in the bush on a pretty hot day and didnt have any dramas with this.

Yeah it does get hot under the engine bay, but probably no hotter then my commodore.

Don't know the full details, but the Auto that comes in the Lexus V8 halfcut can be mated to a surf transfer case without too much dramas....(need to swap input shafts over)

I'm sure there was a thread on here somewhere about it....try searching for it maybe....if not I can dig some info up off another forum....

can't a surf auto be used with a 1uz bell housing same box slightly different internals but it already has the t/case on it might be worth looking at....
if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!
