3b boost & Egt's?

Post by toy73 »

Ok, i have bj73 with axt turbo, other day went down south towing a 6.5meter boat, pyro sat at 550 & boost @ 9psi the whole drive, 4hours.Could only do 100km in 4th & found hills i never new existed,75kph on very flat hills. As i understand it i cant give it any more fuel or it will melt, will more boost help :?: if so how much is considered max for 3b, or will boost just cause more heat. I think it needs an intercooler as when first pulling onto highway or around town has heaps more poke, then on long hard hauls it just gets slower & hotter. Radiator new, engine seems to be breathing a bit more since turbo install. i am aware its a 3b but does all this sound common? :? I have never had to drive a car with my right foot flat for 4 hours before,

boost and power in turbo diesel

Post by juzzydykes75 »

hi i'm a newbie at turbo diesels as well . i have a 60 series 2h 6cyl diesel witha high mount nissan turbo . definately would say an intercooler would help . i run 50 kpa or about 7.5 psi at 100 kays and have noticed after test driving a few turbo models and standard diesel models that the turbo engines do breathe a bit more . i also noticed that the rig has a lot more go earlier on in the drive . i'm looking at a nissan patrol or rotary top mount intercooler for mine and a small bonnet scoop feeding it .
one question is what sort of exhaust are you running . turbo definately responds better with a larger exhaust . i have 3" mandrel bent from turbo back .

Towing a boat for for hours with a 3b turbo sounds normal from what your saying, its only a small four cylinder when you think about it. Mine 3b axt has a straight zorst no muffler for a little extra. I think mine would struggle towing a boat over 4 hours. I used to tow a speed boat but only few hundred meters from where it was stored to boat ramp, pulled it fine but it felt like it would have struggled at higher speeds

Ok has a 2, 1/2 system with one straight through muffler. If my EGTs are normal then i need an intercooler for a bit more power. Has any body tried to intercool a 3b, What intercooloers the go. As not real keen to hack a hole in bonnet for a crap scoop. Or i may just have too flog this 3b again & again.
