URGENT: pinion flange problem??

Post by Spartacus »

my problem: the pinon flange rotates clockwise 10mm and pulls way from the carrier.
once its away u can move it up and down etc until the other side of the flange stops movement, however
when rotating anticlockwise it screws itself back toward the carrier.

the whole lot turns with the flange. eg flange nut, drive pinion.
im leaning towards bearing or spacers

is replaceing the bearing a reasonably easy process? itll be my first time mucking round with diff insides

cheers

bearings are gone.

and try not to drive the car at all.. coz th bearings would be at the bottom of the carrier and may get caught up in the gears.

If possible.. remove the 3rd member and take it to get it repaired.. or fix it if you're knowledgable.. otherwise its too hard.

pinion bearing is pressed on im pretty sure ... not really a back yard job

you will need a dial guage and a press ... and a work shop manual
and general tools as well

half agree... reading the manual and other peoples posts there is mention of 20T presses to remove rooted bearings IIRC

i was hoping it would be a simpler swap out the broken-replace with new kinda gig.

Alrighty thanx guys i spose ill go to the wreckers n pick up a whole center if they dont charge to much... maybe an LSD if they are any good

if u pull the center out and give it to a mechanic to fix .. then reinstall the center it won't cost much ... all the time is pulling the diff down and reassemble
