I'm desperately trying to track down a copy of the engineers cert on my car. It was done by Lohning International in NSW who has gone out of business. The records are apparantly hidden away in the deceased estate.
Does anyone know if there is anyway to get access to their records?

Wendle wrote:Have you rung around and asked all the available engineers first hand? You can pull down a list of all the unrestricted signatories in Vic of the RTA website.. There is absolutely no reason why the shouldn't pass the 35's, mine has gone through engineering and RTA inspection on 37's on 15x8's.
They have a problem if the tire manufacturer says the tires should go on an 8.5inch rim or bigger as you cant run bigger than 8in.
He will only do BFG and Coopers..
Im thinking he would do Claws, if he had a letter from them on company letter head which he has for the others... I think it was you that had one wasnt it for clawz?

There is 15 unrestricted signatories in Victoria, 10 of which can certify passenger vehicles, why keep going to the same bloke???

I did have, I gave it to the dude that bought the tyres off me, was easy enough to get, I just rang the importer in QLD.

he is the most 'relaxed' of all of them. 90% of the 4wd shops use him, but yea few phone calls wouldnt hurt....
He also doesnt just say NO, he offers suggestions on things which is good...
Cheezy uses him too to engineer his mav, if it ever sees tar again.
getdirty wrote:That is true but a 35x12.5 MTR is recommended for a minimum rim width of 8.5". Therefore not recommended for a 15x8". How can I prove to an engineer that Goodyear is wrong.
Compare it to some aspect ratios and rim widths for tyres made for other types of vehicles. The 8.5" thing is only a recommendation.

contact Goodyear. its the only way they will pass it. Ask them for it in writing , and get it to every engineer out there!
Understanding Engineers
Understanding Engineers - Take One
Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said,
"Where did you get such a great bike?"
The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday
minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want.'"
The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fitted anyway".
Understanding Engineers - Take Two To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
Understanding Engineers - Take Three A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with these
guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!"
The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!"
The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him."
"Hi George! Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"
The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters.
They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."
The group was silent for a moment.
The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?"
Understanding Engineers - Take Four
What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers?
Mechanical Engineers build weapons and Civil Engineers build targets.
Understanding Engineers - Take Five
The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"
Understanding Engineers - Take Six
Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body.
One said, "It was a mechanical engineer." Just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The last one said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"
Understanding Engineers - Take Seven
"Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet."
Understanding Engineers - Take Eight
An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress.
The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship.
The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there.
The engineer said, "I like both."
"Both?"
"Yeah. If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done."

Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).

When I say relaxed, everythin' still has to be 100%, but if something doesnt pass, he gives you suggestions on how he would pass it... Look at Cheezys Mav...

You are cool, I for one enjoy your banter. I think you aren't as loved on the patrol list. They just do not see the 3 Litre like you do
hands and mums dont count!!!
One thing you have to make sure of when you go to the RTA is that you check you rego papers that they have ritten the report no on the bottom of the papers. I have had to go through it few times where i have got my blue slip and report gonr to the RTA done all the paper work and they have forgotten to actually register the engineers report on there computer and the copy of the rego papers you recieve.. The RTA doesn't take copies of the reports anymore as it is to much for them to file.
So everyone should check when they get there's done.

Sam they must have only just stopped takin copies cause wen i did the zook they took a copy and that wasnt long ago
Carlton bout the tyre bizzo ya can actaully get defected for runnin 33" 12.5 on a 8" rim if ya dont have the papers and then ya have ya track width dramas just ask hypo he got his engineered with dansTOYOwagons 35"s mtrs and got pulled the next day by the copers and was ask 4 his cert wen he gave it to him he said you do realise these tyres arent covered even if they are on the report as being on the truck cant run 12.5 's on a 8" rim and 37"s are supposed to be on a even larger rim ...............im just gunna run the risk with em though cause ill have 8"-9"s with mine
Ive said a few times i cant beleive how ya got them passed ya self with all the RTA shite u have had to go through

couple things.
They tyres are recommended for an 8.5" rim, It is only a recomendation, not even a rule, let alone a law. Yhet are also speed and load rated for heaps, heaps more weight and more speed that what you are ever going to need in your 4x4. So the engineer, if he knows his shit (and you know what to ask him to do) can de-rate the tyres by a set percentage (say 10%) to allow for the performance loss by fitting them to the narrower rim, and your tyres will still be rated way above the speed and weight that the vehicle needs..
My track width increase works out to about 140mm or thereabouts, is written into the report, stamped off by the RTA, and the paperwork is in the glovebox. These limits they set are rules, not laws, and with a bit of clever wordage, some common sense, and an open mind, you can make some pretty wild shit seem pretty tame on paper.
It basically comes down to $, once you get beyond the limits of the basic certificate, and road testing, materials testing, and engineering & law theory start having to be proved, you are up for about $350 an hour to pay ofr your engineers time, If you had enough $, I reckon you could get a wildebeest registered for higway use.
