80 series eng fan cfm?

I'm looking at pulling out the old vicous(spelling) engine fan and replacing it with a electric thermo fan. What i want to is how much CFM do i need?

an elec fan can gives far more probs than needed

since doing the bodylift getting the radiator at the right height and trying to remount it, its become a pain in the arse. the factory fan hits the outlet on the radiator when left in the factory location. so i've mounted up the radiator in a bit of a bodge job way. so with a thermo i can put the radiator back the original place and all should be fine.

As for the CFM on the engine driven fan ??????????????? depends how fast the engine is spinning it would be 10 times the capacity of a big electric at full revs. It take approx 20 HP to drive the fan when engaged and thats how much air you need to keep it cool offroad. If you absolutley never went off road you might concider an electric fan but with any offroad they wont cut it on a big engine. The factory engineers spend a lot on research and put an engine driven fan WHY ????? because it needs it !

just go to your local autoparts store...n look through the davies craig thermo fan catalogue.
at the back gives you sizes and CFM ratings?....from memory,i'll have to look through mine at arok again.
you'll find a thermo fan ,that will be sufficiant for your 80series.maybe 15inch or larger?

at the back gives you sizes and CFM ratings?....from memory,i'll have to look through mine at arok again.
you'll find a thermo fan ,that will be sufficiant for your 80series.maybe 15inch or larger?

how about measuring the radiator and seeing what will fit. Don't be a tight ass and buy two small fans one big one will move more air. Maybe a fan and shroud of au six clyinder falcon might be what your after as they are twin fans with proper desgined cowl so they don't steal each others air!.

I never said that "im going to get two small fans" i just want to do it right the 1st time. Hence the reason i asked. AU falcon fan is a good idea :finger: i'll look into it.

might want to look into the au fans because i read somwhere that they are 4 speed and the wiring can be tricky. but this could be just crap also, anyone else know?
But surely if you gave them full battery voltage they would be on full speed?

firstly i agree that you cant beat factory cooling systems 99% of the time and in the case of the 80's it works well.

if you get a radiator bloke to fix it, it wouldnt be a bad idea to have the top tank taken off and give the radiator a good flush n clean. had mine done a while ago and it was 40% blocked.

alternatively my experience with thermo fans has been that on large radiators with 1 large electric fan that cant cover the core fully you will develope hot spots on the tank and it will slowly overheat at idle. in this situation i solved the problem by fitting a twin fan setup off a new au falcon (about $380 from ford spare parts 3yrs ago). i tossed the shroud and fitted it to a custom alloy 1 i made and this baby cools a 400hp small block in any situation as these fans hammer.

mind u its 1 mutha of a radiator so each case is different.

IMHO get the mounts changed and stick with the engine fan, its water proof.

Redo the mounts and if you have ditched the cowl, get another....thermos are good to help the factory fan, but dont cut it in offroad by themselves..
