Just a bit of a vent because i did a trip to Fraser Island over new years (round-about way cos i drove to Townsville for chrissy did Fraser on way back) and had the pump pack it in about 15km's out of Proserpine. I have a hilux with a 22R engine and couldnt believe how hard it was to source, ended up finding one at an arse end of no-where mechanic in Proserpine.
The thing just packed it in and the replacement was $80, five minute job to fit and away we went (four hour delay but). The point is the part was cheap as chips and if we hadnt had one my entire trip would've been rooted! Definately a standard inclusion in my spare parts packet from now on..

Can sympathise although I think you got out of it lightly. our 80 series fuel pump is $600 genuine and $300 after market and instead of a 4hr wait we can't get one until Monday. At least ours died in the gutter outside our house, it could have been worse because 2 days prior we were treking around Mt Sterling which is 500kms from home, and then the day after that we were up to our a....xle in mud!

not the cost that i was worried about, just the fact that we were on the side of the highway in forty degree heat and for the first two hours i thought the fraser trip was rooted! I agree i got out lightly, eighty bucks still seems too cheap..

We went to Fraser over christmas as well. A day before leaving I decided to try it out on petrol because I pretty much only run it on gas and relised that the fuel pump was not working at all...thank god for Repco, they had one in stock on Sunday. Replaced it no worries.
Start it up and driving around realise that it is running like a bucket of shit oin petrol and basically not drivable at all. No one can look at the thing over christmas so I thought that trip to Fraser was over.
I then on the morning of leaving drained the petrol out of the tank and replaced the fuel filter and everything was great.
I then drove from Melbourne to Gympy(sic) replacing a radiator on the side of the road (thankyou Repco again) used a complete tank of unleaded on the trip up and then ran out of gas 70k's from Fraser so I decided to swap to petrol and what do you know, it fucked up again.
So I decided to replace the fuel pump again. Didnt solve the problem. So after driving that far and suffering numerous over heating problems I was not going to turn around. So over to the island we go on one tank of gas only.
Consequently every time I needed fuel I had to go back across on the barge. Very expensive tanks of gas.

Still not sure what the problem is. Might be blocked injectors. I only got back a few days ago so I havent had a chance to look at it yet. Because it runs on gas I dont think it will be a priority either.
Worried about the overheating problem. Replaced thermostat, new radiator. Full of coolant and I am running a 16' and 12' dual thermo fans on the radiator and it is still heating up BAD. (great for sand driving)
Any Ideas.
Looks like the V8 will be going in sooner rather than later with all the problems I have been having.
