TD42 Engine...

Post by harvey »

I've just been offered a TD42 engine that's apparently done a genuine 51,000km [32000m] for $4,300 bucks [£1,800].

Do you think that represents good value for money or am i paying over the odds?

I'm not sure. Would it make a big difference to the condition of the engine. I've been told it's out of a 1996 gq.

If its genuine km's then sounds good. If its been sitting for a while, then seals may have hardened and need replacing. The TD42 is a long lasting engine if looked after--500,000+kM"s but expensive to rebuild. I recently rebuilt mine @550,000km's myself and didnt get much change out of $6500--worst ppart was that it really didnt need a rebuild

Make sure your engine crane/lift is up to the task though--its a veeery heavy engine
