Engine bay hot.

Post by meiamaro »

Put a TJM battrey tray in an have noticed that it(and everything else)
gets bloody hot.
Should i space the back of the bonnet, add vents ect.
I'm worried it will shorten the life of the new battry.
Has anyone else delt with this,if so did it work and was it
worth it.

Cheers Ian.

el falcons etc have a battery cover that ducts cold air from the front of the car around the battery, should be cheap as from the wreckers

Have been tossing around in my head lifting the back of the bonnet to let more hot air out there but have to stop it flowing into the cab air intake. You are right though it does get very hot.

My GU ute has a cool air box around the original battery position, but it all gets hot, hot, hot.

Spacing the back of the bonnet up does cool the engine bay a lot by letting air in, but when you are not moving you will get smells into the vents. I've now dropped the bonnet back to standard and fitted a bonnet scoop. Bighorn (Jackaroo) ones are easy to find and work well. Without something I use to almost burn my leg on the trans tunnel. It was way too hot to touch!

I guess I would have to ask myself though how many holes I would want to cut in the bonnet. Have the intercooler scoop there already. I woudn't mind a bigger one I guess and section part of it to the intercooler and part to engine bay cooling :grab:

I had slotted holes cut in my bonnet to let heat out which worked fine except when you go through water, mist and steam comes out the vents and blocks your view through the windscreen. Have since blocked the vent holes up.
