I know of someone in the US who set up a turbo with about 7psi boost on a 16v and still used the stock ECM. He reckon it dealt with it ok. He also felt the injectors were good for 9si and the fuel pump was fine. Said it actually ran rich under hard acceleration due to over compensation from the MAF and ECM.

Others have gone with a Megasquirt and some feel that 4-5 psi is the safe limit for the pistons. The big concern has been the pistons and the compression ratio. Some have skimmed the tops of the pistons by up to 2mm to lower it. Another way would be to use a decompression plate. There is a company in South America that does custom forged pistons for them.

I suppose it's going to come down to what amount of boost you are going to run.
