temp gauge on hilux

hey all,
i have a 1991 hilux (petrol) and my temp gauge in the dash shit itself costing me 2 grand to fix as my engine overheated.

i need to buy a new aftermarket temp gauge and was wondering if my model hilux has a mechanical one or electrical one????

how hard are they to fit???

dosent matter . it will be electrical garunteed . just go and buy a speco , or autometer mecanical it will bolt strat in where the ols sender was . i think the mecanical one is better option . but thats my opinon.

Yep go the mechanical for sure. Will always be accurate. Almost come to grieve on more than 1 occasion due to the temp setup.

Just a tip here... my Hilux lost the water (with the missus driving) and apparently when that happens it sticks at the last temperature so the sparkys tell me. (I had the sender and guage tested). She brought it home with a bit of a rattle. A $5000 dollar rattle. You can buy and install an alarm that tells you when your water drops instead. I'm trying to find one now.

if i got a car electrics place to do it, how much should they ask seeing its a fairly esy job??

genrally its at the fronyt near the thermostat housing or water neck . on mine i had to positions to chosse from . and the other guys are right get a low water allarm think it mite cost all of 100 dollars at a leccey shop but when ur talkn desiel rebuild its worth it .
