Steering Idler Arm Issues...

Post by HotFourOk »

Hey guys,

I had my steering idler arm replaced last month due to the bushes being flogged out.
I had a complete genuine Daihatsu part fitted up and it cost me about $200...

On Tuesday when i was taking my wheel off... i noticed the side to side movement had appeared again, so I inspected it further.

The new idler arm has flogged out also within a month of having it replaced...
Do you have any ideas what is causing this?? They should last for ages :?

And becuase the entire arm is new... can you have new bushes put into it? Rather then buying a complete unit again...

Im sure I read in the Daihatsu FAQ Bible that these bushes could be replaced without coughing up for an entire arm. Part number should be in there somewhere.

Cheers

You can only get replacement bushes for Feroza's and not Rocky's :?

Looks like I'm up for a new arm... again.... bloody money down the toilet.

Does a worn out bush on the idler cuase premature tyre wear at all?? Or does it just affect steering tightness and responsiveness? Coz if it doesn't I may leave it for a while.
Reason is I'm getting some MTRs and i dont wanna chew them out quicker than they should.

If its worn out within a month???
Somethings wrong. Does the arm require a Preload adjustment?
Was it brand new?

Nah no adjustments that me or the mechanic knows of...

Yeh it was a brand new genuine Daihatsu spare.. :?

I'm going to have my whole front end checked over by the local suspension gurus... may have to replace other bits as well

But yeh, something is wrong to have wore it out in a month.. just to find out whats doing it...
