Accessory weights

Post by Stoknisan »

Hi all,

I am currently researching the viability of replacing the local fire brigades support 4wd - currently a 3.0GU. We have a problem in that the GVM has been exceeded. I am looking at all vehicles but am having trouble finding specs on after market accessories. I need to find the manufaturers weights on #ARB winch bar - no winch
#ARB Towmaster tow hitch
#Milford cargo barrier
#ARB Canopy (dual cab)

If I have to I will ring the manufacturers direct, but I thought I would try this forum first, so I don't have to make as many phone calls and secondly have to deal with those sometimes Rude sales staff

Thanks

if you're worred about weight, a cheezy style bar would be a lot lighter than
an ARB bar.. guess it doesn't give the same amount of front on protection though.. depends what you're after.. if its just to mount a winch then it'd be better.

Can't help you with weights (but I'm sure ARB can) but have you considered replacing it with a ute? Gives you 400kg+ extra to play with. Also, if you go a rear leaf sprung ute, I'm pretty sure you can buy springs for the back that uprate the GVM legally.

Thanks guys,

I think we need the protection as well as the winch mount, It doesn't do a great deal of off road but when it does it is usually chasing fire somewhere in the state. This combined with the fact that then Vehicle id driven by potentially 25 different drivers - who are all extremely careful?

I contacted ARB and they were a bit vague on specific weights " oh about 60kgs for a winch bar" "30 sounds about right for a tow hitch".

A dual cab ute looks like it is going to be the way to go.

FYI a winch bar no winch = 60kg, towhitch = 30 kg canopy =35kg

Thanks guys

BTW the current vehicle 3.0L GU with 20ks will probably for sale soon

Sounds like you need a Land-Rover 130 dual cab - they have the highest payload of any dual cab AFAIK.

why do you need a winch bar yet run no winch? none of the trucks or personnel carriers in our shire in Sydney had winches.

Yeah and we are looking for something with a bit of comfort.

And bogged FYI we do have a winch. It is needed because the brigade is a road crash rescue vehicle so it needs to assit us in stabilising and assisting patients
