O.K any prob's in mating a p/glide to a lux t/case????

Post by Webbie »

I'm in the process of working out how to go about marrying up a 2 speed powerglide to a lux transfer case .Has anyone done this :?: or has anyone got any ideas of the problems I will encounter. My Idea was use the yolk off the p/glide cut it off at the uni and the get a old pline shaft from a lux box cut it down then join the 2 together , this is done by simlpy mountig the 2 units independently of each other so that they run true.
On the t/case end fab up a peice of 4-6mm plate as a cover plate with a peice of tube coming off it , close enough to get a dust boot to cover the shafts , Will this work     :)
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

there's a canadian company that makes a divorced adapter for a lux case if you get stuck.
It was about $500US from memory.

Is this for a Buggy?

If so i would think twice about using the toy case!

Especially behind a decent auto!

What engine will be infront of all this?

The idea was a cheap and reliable drive train,I know there is always range gear, but i have a powerglide available and i've got transfercase and front and rear diffs and a 253 ,as well as a set of 37'' on beadlocks . So its a matter of getting the rest i spose hydro assist steering or full hydro ????? electrics and so on.

Might also pay to check the bolt pattern from the block to the trans. From memory the 253's all were a holden pattern and 90% of all the aussie glides sold in holdens are chev pattern. There was one holden model (HK?) that had the glide upto a holden pattern block.

Might be wrong but alarm bells were goin off in my head. Wouldnt be too much to re-drill the block tho but if your unpreparded for it, it can catch you out when least needed.

After a few phone calls and some homework on pirate i thenk its gunna cost me more and acheive less buy using a powerglide so as much as i dont want to I'll probly end up using the drive train less the diffs from a range   as it will cost me about $500-1000 for the range parts 3.5 +Zf+ lt230 and then just bolt it up.
