Came flying down blowhard tk cos i was in a rush to get my girl to work and i bounced out of the ruts locking it up into a tree! Bwahahaha we pissed our selves laughing. Was great!

Guess that means you made your girlie late for work...
So anyone got any thoughts on random as missfiring after a day of driving. Temp gauge is fine. Once it starts missing it wont stop. I have a piranha electronic ignition system. I reckon it might be time to upgrade it cos its so hard to chase a random problem.
Any thoughts? What do u guys run?
once had a piranha ignition in an old rangie of mine. It stopped working with a busted wire (damn those wires are fine) but that stopped it dead and took about 2 weeks to find.
Not sure where it is mounted but if you think it could be either heat or condensation affected, have you tried mounting it inside the cabin? I eventually cut all the wires to mine, threaded them through the firewall and had the module mounted up high near the front passenger kick panel.

Warn - Dont leave home without it
I have thought about doing this but its getting to the stage where i have to drive it all day to really test it. Im sick of being stuck 40kms away! Might be the go and try to do alot of driving when i know im camping for the night! That way it should be right again in the morning.TRobbo wrote:once had a piranha ignition in an old rangie of mine. I think its something to do with heat cos i heard some of them may need to be mounted to something like a heat sink. True could be water as its not water tight at all.
Thanks tony!
Most probably an ignition problem and could be the coil.
But some diagnostics at the time that it fails would be beneficial Steve.
Do you get spark out of the coil?
Do you get spark at the leads?
Do you have fuel at the carby etc.
you can then start to pinpoint the problem

Sounds very similar to whats hapening to me but seems to take longer like driving for a day etc.jbell wrote:the landy was starting & running fine, then a few k's
up the road it would miss & backfire & down on power,
at first I thought it was a fuel blockage. but was the coil.

Tony yeah i have spark and fuel! The only problem i have found its under load when she starts carrying on. Anyway this week i will rewire the module to inside the car and replace the coil. Might give it a test before wandin this sat/sat night.
