is it really necessary to put the rear tailshaft in??? I think if you had it in gear and just spun the output flange at the rear of the box, that would be sufficient.plowy wrote:put tailshaft in box ,put box in gear
twist shaft n push on the box to line the input shaft spline to the clutch
Did you align the clutch plate/pressure plates correctly when installing them??? Might be slightly out and not allowing it to fit in correctly.
I know I had a bit of trouble when I had to do my rear main a few times in the 60. I had to give it some to get it in place, but then it just basically slipped right in once it aligned with everything perfectly.
When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!

yeah sorry late at night and wasn't thinking, was thinking of the tailshaft style that slips onto the rear output shaft /housing like on most of you 2wd drive cars ,
Just pulled the box back down and the splines are exactly the same guess some of the earlier types are differant
now at the Pub deal with it later, anyone with any other info

60 series 5 spd bolted straight up to my 83 HJ47 2H - previously 4 spd.
If the clutch is out of alignment too far then get wifey or mate to hold foot on clutch while attempting to put box in - of try to line it up by eye.

yes but it doesn't say whether the 5spd from the 60 was a petrol or diesel or whether your truck is petrol or diesel.4sum4 wrote:did you start reading from the tophokey wrote:Thought this was the best place to ask instead of creating a new thread.

pretty sure the only differance with the diesel and petty is the bell housing set up clutch is on the other sidehokey wrote:yes but it doesn't say whether the 5spd from the 60 was a petrol or diesel or whether your truck is petrol or diesel.4sum4 wrote:did you start reading from the tophokey wrote:Thought this was the best place to ask instead of creating a new thread.
