That 2.8td can turn those 38,5" tyres very easely, because a original axle have a ratio from 3.363 and the Nissan Patrol GR axles have a ratio from about 4.6. When they are in a mud hole they could put him even in 3th low gear and then the engine not have a problem.
Its the car from 2 friends of mine, they put on a bodylift from 6" and then the nissan axles, for the front axle they made themself the supports on the Daihatsuchassis, for the rear axle they made a whole new chassis, they cut the original chassis right after the doors off. The axle shaft is also home made to fit on the Daihatsu transfercase and on the nissan axles. They moved the radiator to the back and in that place they put on the winch. There is a ARB-locker on the front and on the rear is the original nissan locker rebuild from vacuum to air pressure.
They drive extreem muddy off-road for 4 times with this awsome Daihatsu and everyting is still okay, nothing is yet broken. We think the original gearbox is now the weakest piece on the car, when the first mechanical part get broken, i let you now.
Muddy regards from little Belgium

the main reason that the radiator is in the back is because we like to drive into the deep mud, and when the radiator is moved there is place for the winch behind the grill and we dont need a winchbumper that makes te car longer

well that makes perfect sense. seems like it worked out ok. how do you draw in air to cool it?gonzo4x4 wrote:the main reason that the radiator is in the back is because we like to drive into the deep mud, and when the radiator is moved there is place for the winch behind the grill and we dont need a winchbumper that makes te car longer

Sorry for the late answer, but i am too bussy with renovating our house.
The suspension is all original from the Nissan Patrol.
The whole back end from the chassis is home made, also for putting the shocks on. The fuel tank is also moved to the inside i think.
When the renovating is finisched, i starting a new project for myself. I have 8 scat's (F50) now and manny axles from Rocky's so i think we could fix a real tuff truck. When i get started i let it now.
Greetz from cold Belgium,
Your Rocky is looking real nice and serious now.
How do find the gearing?
Is the MQ's 4.6 r&p lower than the Rocky's?
i went from 31s and 3.36 to 33s and 4.6 soon to be 36/37s
i guess i could describe it as being dropped 1.3 turns??
anyway its still lower even with 38s i think
