In the processes of fixing diffs and ratio changes on my Sierra, I have discovered the front and rear LJ diffs are different (not unusual I know)
The rear has a beefier crown wheel, which I assume is stronger, but this makes the pinion smaller, and maybe weaker. The shape is a little different too.
I've used a front LJ crown and pinion, in my Sierra rear diff, as hopefully it be less used, better condition...But is the rear diff actually stronger by design, or is the LJ front diff stronger?
Opinions and facts both appreciated.

I had an installation prob, that is the axle I used was stuffed, and I thought it was the diff, so I pulled out the new diff, did it up, and put it back in again, I like wasting timemunga wrote:id guess that the rear one would have been made as the stronger one?
what are your findings so far?
Axle splines were worn, and binding up, and clanking.
This means I have only had it running for 3 days, going bush tomorrow, Saturday, for a test 4wd drive, but seems ok so far.
