brakes experts??

Post by mickyd555 »

on a H260 diff, i have drums on the back. if i buy a new housing (which im doing anyway) and the new one has discs on it, will they just bolt up, or is there anything else that would be needed.

It will be being done by a expert brake type person as i have no idea about brakes except that if they dont work youll crash. only reason im asking is that im trying to work out if i can afford to do it all at once (which would be easier). Ill be putting in a suspension lift at the same time as all this happens, so if it needs new brake lines, i think i may need extended ones anyway. any thoughts or advice is welcome.

if your car has drums now you will have to change the brake master as they are diffrent between disc and drum model's

really, there are two housings. H230 is what comes in the coil cabs and some wagons. The leaf utes have a H260 and im led to believe the 4.5 L petrol and some 3 L turbos have them aswell. none of this is confirmed, so this is why i have the thread going. cmon, who knows there shiznit

i have a good centre, its cheaper to chage the housing only as i want to change to coil rear anyway, this way its all bolt up hopefully instead of welding.

i imagon you would have to weld some saddles for the springs on the chasi, to convert to spring?

new housing should go straig in with all ur disc hardware?

question would be what the difference between a disc master brake
and a drum brake master?

i thought they use pritty much that same one???

I have read and read still not 100% clear on what you want to do. I think you have a disc housing minus the centre and want to put your centre from the h260 into it ??

I would suggest Pm'ing wendle. He will tell you something along the lines of differing axle splines and there is a spacer somewhere in there . Would require machining.

Otherwise whacking discs on the outside of your drum would be counter productive still have to weld on all the associated brackets for coils.

I swapped from drums to disc in my shorty I completely changed housings. I reused my standard master cylinder and put the drum rebuild kit through it recently, until then I wasn't aware the two were different. Braking has not been a problem.

My suggestion.. Completely swap housings with the disc brake centre in the disc brake housing.....

oh ok the story open up a bit more

GU or GQ

would have to have a good hunt for the right chasi with the rear differental disc brak modle and see if ya can steel a brake master to go with the disc :) hopefully you find somthing in very good nic for the right price :)

its a GU mathew.......

jeremy, sorry it does sound a bit vauge, but i knew what i wanted..

im changing from a leaf rear to coil rear because im changing the chassis anyway (dont ask, its a long story) i have been told that i can get a H260 housing that will have the coil mounts on it already, if i can use my centre and axles in it it will save me money. If i need a complete diff, id prefer to just weld new mounts onto the housing i have. My thoughts are that if i get the coil H260 housing from a wagon I can get one with the discs ready for it, so will it work or not?? discs would be nice, but not necasary......
