DON'T PANIC!
You can get commodores in AWD now, they should get you down the dirt driveways.
Either way, you can change oil when your book says and the engine MIGHT last or you can drive it for 100000klms without oil change but being that it's a 3ltr it's gunna go bang eventually so don't worry about it.
And for my most serious comment of the thread ... if your boss has gone and bought a fleet of rep vehicles without any research into running/servicing costs then this thread is simply a waste of all of our time.

I remember when I had to pay farmers a visit every now and then during daylight hours, 3 times out of 5 I would be told they are in such and such a paddock, many times there was no chance of getting there or back without 4wd and sometimes without decent clearance also. Some property's can be pretty eroded and worn down. The GU suited the task perfectly at the time.

it would appear net offroaders really have no clue!.... and some are showing a side that is of benifit to no-one bar your sad self.

-have you ever even tried to enter horticultural property for agronomic inspection after much rain. (picking the kids upfrom school in the stocker on the kerb is not the same).. have you ever passed school
-what diff does it make weather doing allot of kms touring or a combination of hiway and farm visitiing that is still a very short service interval for a large 4wd i would have thought..... if touring you would no every dealership round the country....
also a few have missed the fact if it goes bang it's not my issue but for the warrant reason it will be serviced as needed.......
Rold it, perhaps you should try something else to pass the time... i have never read this sort of attitude from you and think it is uneeded....
lets pls forget the attitudes all and myself and move on productively!

i was simply taken by supprise by the short service intervels....
i has just been suggestd that at 5 it's a minor service oil and filters and the 10's are the main one and that wouldnt be so bad..

I totally agree with you there bingham some of the advice and balloney on here is absolute hog wash,i was actually saying that if you were going to get rid of it in warranty do it every 10 000 k's and 5 thousand if you were to keep it longer term. Diesel's are self contaminating as to why i do mine every 5 or 6000 k's .Bingham wrote:it would appear net offroaders really have no clue!.... and some are showing a side that is of benifit to no-one bar your sad self.

BTW i think some people just get on here for a reaction and post smart a*se comments because they haven't a clue.
I've heard of people having their oil tested for contaminants, rather than change it every x km. One bloke found oil was doing OK out to 17k km, better than the 7500 km he was being urged to do - so he's changing his oil at 15k km.
I have no idea how much the testing costs - I understand it's designed for earthmovers etc, where the oil volume is much larger/more $$$ per change.
What's the oil volume & cost for each change?

why buy a live axle 4wd to do 3500kms a week onroad and down farm driveways?

Yer. I too think that you should by a RAV4 or perhaps a SsangYoung Musso. Really as a rep you should have a good car that doesn't need a WEEKLY SERVICE

On a sensible note, by 2002 requires service for 3.0 & 4.2 at 5,000 intervals.
something that I DID NOT KNOW when I bought it, until looking JUST NOW.
DAMN IT>
At least mine sounds good.
Also I'm sure Nick gets his done at 10,000ks

yes yours whistles and goes fast enough to get me a speeding ticket.... but you really should be looking at a rebuild having 487 000kms on clock or just trade on a musso and we could start a mussu club with roly...........or maybe a 1speed hrv in purple...phippsey wrote:Should have taken the SsangYoung!roly wrote:yep

Ok I just was at my Nissan dealer getting the fan replaced and they said this;
3.0 - 10,000 service intervals, unless used in "extreme" conditions (5,oook). Which includes Hervey Bay!
4.2 - 5,000 service intervals. However, only oil change - not filters. They are done every 10,000k.

Just another example of modern technolgy. 10,000kms for the 3.0 and 5,000 for the prehistoric 4.2.
I have a GUIII 3.0 with 317,000kms on it and it has gone up to 40,000kms between services and gets driven very hard on a daily basis, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the longevity of the engine. For warranty reasons get it done every 10,000 and you will have nothing to worry about.
