We are testing some at the moment, they should be available shortly after xrcc.

i want them for coils so if you have a prototype that doesn't clear spoa leafs but works for coils, i can still use it.

make me some bomb-proof chro-mo rods too. :cool:

you can use mercedes steering arms as a bolt of highsteer from what I've been told by a few mates who've done or are doing it.

Where do they bolt to? The best ones I have seen are the OTT ones, which pick up the kingpin bolts as well as the 2 brake caliper bolts. I wouldnt trust anything that just relies on just the kingpin bolts.

I just rang a local Benz wrecker and was quoted $45 for a new arm. So I'm gonna head over this afternoon and see if it's the right one or not.

I also rang Overkill and Snake. Overkill does make the arms but they are machined when ordered. Snake Suzuki arms are not in production yet.

The other problem with the merc arms is that they only bolt up to the caliper bracket (I belive) That braket was never designed to see force in those directions .. it was designed to absorb the rotational force of the disk not the shearing force of the steering arm .. also the merc arms dont do much for you steering as it screws up some angle as you turn (how with stock steering the inside wheel turns slightly tighter than the outside wheel etc) (this was explained to me by someone who knew way more about steering geometry than I did .. I will see if I can dig up what he wrote .. and yes it was in direct realtionship to the merc arms on Zuk diffs)

The "proper" crossover steering kits address these issues are strong and really work ...

yeah the merc arms are not the best but zookers are a collectively tight arsed bunch of people (don't deny it).

i picked up an arm today for $20. i'll have it machined and when i go to do the coil conversion i'll put it in. i'm thinking it might be worth putting a conical taper in the holes. what do you think?

i share the same concerns as you about the strength issues. is there any way to address them? btw, you're referring to ackerman's principle

For those who are interested the merc arms come from model 126 mercedes.
Yes the arms will screw the ackerman angle up a bit but not exactly sure how, im by no means an expert on steering geometry.
A second angle bracket made to mount also to the brake caliper mount and to the king pin mount is a way of strengthening this issue.

You could also brace it off the original steering arm. Overkill's kit does this.

do you remember the part number stamped on the benz arm? that arm pictured looks a little different to mine. mine is stamped 2321.

i went and tried it on the car and i think my arm should work okay.

the distance between the benz holes is 4.25" whereas the suzuki caliper bracket holes looks to be 10.50cm apart. can someone confirm this? does anyone have the exact specs of the bolts that mount the caliper?

i think the caliper bracket would be strong enough. this arm looks like it was cast so i don't want to weld to it.

If you want cheap .. mine cost about $5 6 or 7mm plate cut out to dit over the top of the kingpin weled on bolted down, worked well for about 2 years started to screw up when I went to swompers and tyres could touch springs, added an extra brace to the "sticky outy" bit that the tie rod goes to .. have had no more probs ..

Ideal world would be an arm that was machined up to use\replace existing kingpin also use kingpin mounts, pick up at least one caliper mount as well as the origional mount.

Skippy, thats the sort of bracing you need but this kit would certainly screw up the ackerman angle worse than the merc arms with the angle its at.

NAM, I cant remember the numbers on the arms, all i know is that they came off a model 126. The hole spacings you describe sounds pretty right. From memory the model 124 arms sit lower and the model 114/115 are comnpletely different and wont fit at all.
All you have to do is egg out one of the holes a little to make it fit.

That would be the breeze kit ..
As that kit does not shorten or move the tie-rod so the wheels move at the same rate as the arc they swing in shoud not have changed ..

I thinl a custom drag link to the merc arm and then then stock one between the zook arms, abit like toyota double arm steering would sort out the ackerman angle

certainly would .. but then you leave the drag link vulnerable ...

does help correct the steering for a SPOA though ..

It will hang down some... how many people have bent one of these? Grimbo, greg, u guys are SPUA still, ever whacked your tie rod???

I am SPOA whacked it pretty good a few times .. enough to make me get out the crowbar and pry it down out of the leafs ..

I will be making a couple of arms next week so I will post some shots when done.
We are also going to start making drivers side arms as well so that you can run a fulll high steer setup.
