Record battery code.

Mark leads (if not already marked by a red an black cable). If in doubt take a digital photo.

Ask salesperson at battery place for new battery.

Connect terminals up same way on new battery.

Jeepers. I am almost certain there are no +ve earth GQ patrols, but I think he'd better check carefully himself.

found the prob, the previous owner hooked up the battery the wrong way, causing a bit of a melt down, in the process he flattened the battery, and replaced most of the wiring, so he still hooked up the battery the wrong way after he redid the wiring. so in turn when he charged the battery back up with the leads the wrong way around it can change the polarity of the battery, this is why the old battery only lasted a year. so when the new battery was installed the correct way it started no probs except for a shagged alternator.

I wonder why battery terminals, round ones anyhow, are different sizes, and different colours?
