I got emailed this today, i dont know how old it is of if it applies here...might be of some interest.
RECALL AND REPLACEMENT NOTICE

WARN® A2000 WINCHES EQUIPPED WITH
THE WHITE-RODGERS SOLENOID
SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1, 2000 to MAY 31, 2001


POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD


There have been recent, isolated reports of ATVs that have experienced fires on units with Warn 2000 lb. winch kits that include a White-Rodgers manufactured solenoid.
These winch kits were sold between approximately November 1, 2000 to May 31, 2001. These fires have occurred when the vehicles were parked and the winches were not being used.
Consumers should immediately disconnect the solenoid wires from their ATV and contact their local ATV dealer or Warn Industries to receive the free replacement solenoid and installation instructions.

ATV winches not big in Aus like they are in the US. Dont know of anyone here that has one on there ATV.

Someone must though.

I agree Tonka, it appears to be related to the states....makes an interesting point though...when solenoids give up how many people check the ratings on the replacement they are using?...I have seen the end result on a few 4bies that have had incorrect solenoids or cables, was rather black!
