Cheap power boost on SSRX

Post by bluemeanie »

I was wondering if any one knows how to increase power (cheaply) to a SSRX with 2 1/2 exaust 2.4ltr TD motor. I have heard that you can make some mods to the turbo and fuel which will give a considerable power increase without damaging the motor or turbo? :?:

Is there a way you can change a sump gasket in a 2.4ltr TD without removing the motor?

You could remove the front diff etc to get better access to the sump

$100 or so boost controller off ebay made a difference to mine, then get a small intercooler have the whole thing dyno tuned and the pump adjusted to suit. May even make it smoke less...

Thanks, but do you know how much the KW increase is with a turbo timer and intercooler installed.Do you also know what PSI the turbo is running on from factory and what PSI you can run it on safely with the above mods you suggested. I have one more question, does any one know somewhere in Bris that you can get a fuel pump recon cheaper that $600?

when i put a boost gauge on mine it was running about 9psi standard, i used a BOOST CONTROLLER (not a turbo timer) to wind the boost up to 15 psi. not sure on the kW gain but it came on boost faster.

even at 14 - 15 psi i would reccomend going to the wreckers and getting a smallish intercooler.

Not sure where you'd get a pump in Brissie though.

Try Hiway Diesel at Acacia Ridge, but 600 isn't too bad. You wouldn't want someone who didn't know what they were doing messing around with your injector pump. I'm guessing ssrx is a surf, so some places might be a bit stand offish because it's an import as well.

Std smurf boost is arround 8 psi on a 2LTE.

May I suggest you use an accredited Denso agent or your cheap $600 rebuild may end up causing much loss of hair and more $$$'s down the track :)

My full pump rebuild cost $1500 (incl. new injectors) by Highway Diesel at Coopers Plains, so $600 is good unless it's just the top seal which can be done while still on the vehicle. Has not missed a beat since
