nope not possible

they have different spline count.

Your best bet is looking at fittin a pathfinder rear LSD into your front as they share the same spline count.

lsd swap

Post by eighty8 »

Have just fitted a navara rear lsd into the front of my gq. It is a straight bolt in.

The spline and shaft size on the navara/pathfinder rear is listed as the same as a gu front, so should also be a easy swap.

cheers.

Stool,

Would you mind putting up a howto (Rough or detailed) guide on welding your front diff. I know I can find like infinite methods for suzuki and tojos but a nissan one doesn't exist..

Is it as simply as yanking out centre and going to town on the spider gears ? Do you chuck stuff in there with them ??

Could you comment on the overall I guess compromise of having the front welded ? Is it thaaaaat Bad.. ?? For no $$$ is it worth it ?? etc etc

I just welded the 4 corners where the spiders come in to contact. Didint even dissmantle centre. Its only a MK but i broke 1 CV, and just about stuffed my hubs. The welds are still holding strong. I guess you could put a large washer to cover the spiders and then weld it on to make it stronger

Anyway have fun, Once your in there youll see how to do it. Failing thAT GOOGLE " Cig Locker" Or " lincoln locker"

Method to weld the GQ cantre is the same as most other diff centre
just bigger

1 pull axel and cv out

2 Remove steering drag link

3 Remove prop shaft and mark the position of flange to shaft for
correct balance

4 Remove all the nuts from diff carrier

5 Slide diff carrier out which will Brake your arm as it is very {HEAVY}

6 Remove diff centre from carrier

7 Clean oil from gears

8 Find a mate who is handy with a mig welder

9 Weld spider gears togther than weld spider gears to diff center

Do one or two welds a day as to keep it all cool to touch for max strength
and Never cool off with water.

10 Clean all spatter from gears and centre as thay will stuff your bearings
big time if left in centre .

Driving with a welded diff is quiet good in a patrol .

The steering is heavy when on high traction and will return to centre
Thats about it.

I find the extra traction well worth the zero dollors it cost to lock the
front diff

And ive been told ARB air lockers replace the centre anyway
so who cares.

Just do it .

The extra drive thru the front is great, makes a big difference. The steering is a little heavier and wants to center it self, just got to adjust your driving style in some situations but nothing bad, after 2 or 3 trips l'm used to it.

I've had a front wheel lodged fairly tight in a rut once or twice, the limo obviously allows some slip untill the full load is off that wheel which reduces the risk of a cv breakage, which l like. :)

Sounds like ur happy with the result, so i assume u can climb and decend hills with greater control.Have u got a before/ after story of your favorite hill?? You mention the self centring effect of the LSD, does the 4b have a worse turning circle ie weaving between trees?
thanks

No it doesn't have a worse turning circle, it's just heavier cause the front wants to drive in a straight line. Just gotta change your driving style a little. It will slide a little on a greasy track like any style of locked diff will but like l said, you learn to adjust.
Overall, ...real happy with it
