5 link front drivablity

Post by known 2 »

looking at a 80's cruiser with a 7inch lift and 5 ling front end and they guy selling tells me it's not drivable over 80kph darts from side to side over small bumps, is there anyway to fix this without pulling the suspension and links out?

thanx guys

sounds like some of the bushes are floged out. U would have to have a look at arms bushes. Also check the pan hard rod bushes, aswel as the mounts for cracks. could be the tie rod ends in the steering or a worn steering box. So u really have to find the problem befor asking. If it is any of the above u will have to pull things apart to repair them.

I looked into putting a 5 link in my 80 and decided not to as just about everyone i talked ot said that it is really hard to set a 5 link up in the front of an 80 and make it drive well..

Sorry im no help but maybe there is no way to fix it...

But if ya do work it out let me know.. might 5 link mine then :D

Hey Ray, I was with some blokes a week ago, and one of them had an 80s 5 link setup, the car was doing 100kph and from behind seemed to drive very straight, (dare to say, maybe even better then mine with factory arms), and on dirt... the thing was just unbelievable.

I started a thread some time ago about converting mine, and everybody said DON'T DO IT!... but I reckon i'll be doing it eventually anyway, I would be making it in such a way that would be very easy to go back to 3 link if not successfull. I already have thoughts on how to do it, but it'll stay on paper for awhile.

As this is what I want to correct (nose dive).

I wish the front end worked like the rear.

PS. Sorry for the hijacking

Mark French (Marks 4WD Adaptors) seems to have his 6.5TD 80 Series 5 link workin pretty well, well enough to do a trip up the kimberly etc.

Perhaps email/ring him for some info.

Or try and get hold of Cheezy, i konw HG has a 5link install on his SAS surf and says its almost if not better someimtes than the IFS.
Cheers,
Dan.
