hey bazooked, went to the local ripco today, offered the part number pn ge 143 in order the see if they had a lift pump, but nothing came up, the only universal lift pump he could find was $203, and i dont think my kidneys are worth that much

went to a wreckers and he said he could get me a lift pump to supply furl to the vl pump for around $120 brand new, i will keep you guys updated on how it goes, he has to ring me back first.

bazooked do you have a brand for your lift pump?

in this hole thread nobody has used the word regulater. just about every multipoint injected car has a fuel pump with enough pressure, anything over that is returned to the tank. i run a gti engine and started out with the vl pump with inline filter before the pump and no lift pump. made a bit of noise but never let me down. after the ute conversion was done i bought a complete tank from a hyundai scoupe and mounted that between old tank and tray. now the original tank is my reserve and the vl pump feeds into the new tank when getting low on juice. whole thing works a treat!

been hearing you can use bluebird low pressure electric pumps aswell for lift pumps, should be pretty cheap to find, but only come in s2 bluebirds i think...

ahh another thing i didnt know bazooked, your just full of info ;)

mr green did you have problems with angles and fuel starvation to the pump with just the vl pump?

as i was saying , it did get noisey on the big sideways angle but never cut out. oh and bazooked i mentioned the regukater because others where mentioning fuel pump pressures, i'm just saying its not that critical as long as you have enough.

well its good to know it still works ok, just dont want to be like my mate with a 4age. was up the west coast of tassie(4 hours drive) and fuel pump shat itself from starvation.

will the lift pump be enough to stop this, or a small surge tank needed...

my humble opinion is if you don't want to spend 2 days buggerising about with surge tanks, lift pumps bla bla bla, juast through a vl pump in. But if you want to croos the simpson with peace of mind fit an injected tank (jimny import sierra etc.)

gday all

hey spike sierra, soz I couldnt reply earlier. Bin busy with uni prep...hows your conversion goin mate, mine is getting along slowly, at the moment the only advancement ive made on the fuel system conversion is that ive bought a surge tank for $85. Ive priced the goss pumps suggested by bazooked, and they were about $150 each...so I was going to go to the wreckers and look for a vl pump. Did it all work out for you mate? At the moment Ive been trying to find a way to fit the engine into the bay, mainly the protruding dizzy. Ive managed to find a cap that will fit! It cost me $20 for the rotor button and cap from a mazda gtx. A cheap alternative to the suzisport angle drive for $400

Sorry for getting off track.
Cheers, and good luck!

Gday

I havent acually got any pics of my conversion. But I know some links which would, I can find them for you...

With the extrators. When I bought the half-cut, it came with the extractors from the gti. And of course because it had a cross engine, the extractors wont fit into the sierra bay. So I am just planning on cutting the extractors near the bend and rotating it 90 deg then welding it up again...

The alternative is to get a custom set... or..

Because the gti engine and the sierra have different flange and gasket patterns this poses a problem. If your old sierra engine had extractors you could cut the flange off the sierra extractors and make up a gti flange to suit the gti engine.

Oh well... hope I helped.

Good luck,

Oh yeah mate, whats your plans for the fuel system?

cheers

well with the jimny engine you can use the same headers, thats what im going to do.

with the fuel system, ive got a vl pump, will grab a bluebird lift pump from a s2 bluebird.. see how it goes with that setup, i dont think i will need a surge tank. ;)

I have a 1.6 single point on a g13b, and it uses only one vl commodore pump, which is silent, has no pre lifter, and cost 75 dollars from the wreckers, people make the mistake of looking for a vl turbo pump, when the vl commdore pump is exactly the same, part number and all, but you get "turbo vl poofter tax" at wreckers and shops.

On another note my supercharger is supposed to arrive soon

Gday,

Just about to wire up the vl pump...,

Does anyone know how much current these things suck?, what rating relay should I get?. Also, is the ignition a good place to wire it up to, i.e as the key is turned, the pump starts, thermofan, etc...

thanks

In addition....

What sort of EFI fuel filter could I use for the gti fuel setup? Would the VL commodore one be ok, or should I use the one from the gti?

Any help appreciated.....

Cheers

wire it up to the fuel pump wire in the new loom, they have there own relay built in(well the jimny does) have a look for it on the wiring diagram, the jimny one is pink.

this means the pump will prime when the key is turned to on and then turns on when the pressure drops.

you can use any type of efi fuel filter, i have a universal efi filter, costme around 15 bucks from supercrap.
