Advice needed (re: V8 conversion options)

Post by jakam04 »

Although Id love to put a 350 Chev into my fj73 MWD cruiser, I think I need to be more realistic and look at a 308... I was thinking of a 253, but I thought, Im better off going for the extra grunt for the same price rego etc lol..

Any ideas???

The chev would definitely be the best option in terms of drivability. if you are going to go a holden V8 don't bother with the 253. just won't cut it.
Can't beat the low down of a 350

why not go an LS1?
what would the price difference be?

I am guessing if you left the 350 carby instead of efi it would be a lot cheaper.
I have no real accurate idea of v8 prices and conversions so maybe someone can fill me in.
I would of thought it you are doing it you would only want to do it once and do it right first time.
I believe an LS1, mafless tune, extractors and decent exhaust and you are good for around 250kw at the wheels

I know you can buy an LS1 for say $5k
All I know is a chev 350 is cheaper but no real clue :)

cheers

Why not a 1UZ-FE Lexus V8? My whole conversion cost me around $6000.

Halfcuts can be picked up from $1500.....

Heaps of info on them here

Do a bit of research b4 u decide. Anything u do will cost a lot (>$5k) so u might as well get the best combo u can for the money.

Investigate the engines listed above, but I'd also consider an older chev/ holden/ford on straight gas. Spend the $$ u save (from not fiddling with electricals and computers and catylictic converters on the newer engines) on a good gas setup and u should end up with the power u want thats cheaper to run.

Thank you all for your advice. I currently have a long range tank (petrol) and also a gas system already fitted... which is why I thought id have a lot of fun with a V8 in it.

Thanks

It's got heaps of go...and yeah they are 190kw.....but its still almost double the power and torque of what the old V6 used to put out, and the motor is also lighter than the old iron pot. Forced induction is on the one day wish list!!!
