Black build-up on glow plugs.

Post by dogbreath_48 »

I recently replaced the blown 2h in my troopy with a rebuilt unit from SMS diesel.
When i took the plugs out of the old motor, they were reasonably clean (or at least the black shit was easy to wipe off).
I had to take the plugs out of the new motor today (which is only around 2500km old) and they seemed to have more buildup on them, and it can't simply be wiped clean. There are also spots on the plugs that appear to have a thicker buildup on them, or at least different texture (my initial thought was that these were hotter spots).

My understanding is that an engine which is over-fuelled could cause this, but the injector pump was pre-set by the manufacturer, and i havn't touched it. There is no exessive black smoke on start up or under load.

Any thoughts? Is this an acceptable level of build-up? Is it REALLY possible for the fuel pump to be properly set up without the engine running?
