buying a 2.4 turbo diesel forerunner '89 (not surf)

Post by mtnviscacha »

Hi,

i have had a sierra for a long time, and i am now looking around for a diesel forerunner. I'm not wanting to spend over 10 grand. I know that a 2.8 would have more power, but would a factory turbo 2.4 diesel be okay for getting around? I have found one in very good condition/low k's. I'm not planning on doing any hardcore 4wding, just thinking of putting on a arb airlocker on the front. This is the old style square model before the update in 89/90.
What do you think?

The only advantage of a gen1 4Runner is that it has a solid front axle, but that is probably only better if you plan to modifiy it a fair bit. The gen2 has the 2.8 a much better motor and you can easliy put a turbo on to it also. They have a independent fron suspension (IFS) so it gives ALOT smoother ride though you dont have no where near as good travel.

10k will get you either of these cars. You could also get a surf then you will have all the electric gadgets also but for the money you want will only come in a 2.4 turbo (gen1 and 2).

good luck
